Position Overview:

The Department of Ophthalmology at Tufts Medical Center is actively seeking a full-time Retina Physician to enhance our renowned New England Eye Center. This faculty role uniquely blends academic responsibilities with private practice opportunities. The selected candidate will have the privilege of seeing patients at our medical center, engaging in the education of fellows, residents, and medical students, and participating in cutting-edge academic research, alongside providing care at our affiliated suburban practice locations.

Our department is equipped with state-of-the-art ophthalmic technology, ensuring our physicians are supported by the best tools available. We facilitate over 90,000 outpatient visits annually and conduct more than 8,000 surgical procedures, covering all subspecialties of Ophthalmology, including but not limited to:
  • Cataracts
  • Corneal Disorders
  • Refractive Disorders
  • Glaucoma
  • Oculofacial Plastic and Orbital Disorders
  • Vitreoretinal Disorders
Diagnosis and treatment monitoring are enhanced by over 70 advanced ophthalmic devices.

Research and Innovation:

The Department of Ophthalmology boasts a robust research portfolio, featuring laboratory-based projects, clinical research funded by national institutes, and trials across various subspecialties. Our team has played a pivotal role in numerous advancements in Ophthalmology, particularly in:
  • Age-related Macular Degeneration
  • Diabetic Retinopathy
  • Retinal Vein Occlusion
  • Uveal Melanoma
Since the early 1990s, we have been at the forefront of ophthalmic imaging research, collaborating with leading institutions to develop groundbreaking technologies such as optical coherence tomography (OCT). This partnership continues to foster innovation in ocular imaging.

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will be:
  • Board certified or board eligible in Ophthalmology
  • Fellowship trained in medical or surgical retina
  • Passionate about building a thriving clinical practice with a commitment to education
  • Eligible for a Massachusetts medical license
