The Health and Safety Lead for Ameritrack rail is responsible for managing day-to-day safety aspects of our EH&S program for several locations within the region, and to provide leadership for maintaining a culture that encourages safe behaviors and the corresponding employee mindset. Ameritrack Rail

Ameritrack Rail is a full-service rail contractor providing its customers with engineering and design services, new track construction, existing track maintenance and 24/7 emergency service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure the availability of appropriate medical care for injured employees, and follow-up. Work in conjunction with Human Resources with proper Return to Work for loss work cases.
  • Evaluates the company’s safety standards in accordance with Federal regulations (i.e. OSHA, FRA, etc.) as applicable, to ensure compliance.
  • Assists operations in incident investigations, identifying Root Causes and developing corrective actions.
  • Conduct new hire Health & Safety Training as well as other safety-related training which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote an elevated level of safety awareness.
  • Implements the company safety program and monitors continuity and effectiveness of program.  Will incorporate customer safety requirements as needed. Conduct periodic location safety assessments as required by the Corporate Safety Department.
  • Conduct employee observations to determine Safety Rulebook compliance and evaluate job activities to determine the use of prescribed safety equipment (i.e. PPE).
  • Assess, Identify and Implement administrative or engineering controls to eliminate or minimize safety hazards.
  • Report findings as appropriate, with recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Conducts safety assessments, trend analysis, audits, incident investigations, and site inspections of operational procedures, equipment, and materials.
  • Maintains proper safety related files such as employee training requirements and records.
  • Represents the company in customer safety meetings as required.
  • Inspects and monitors Clearance points and documents semi-annually in accordance with Railserve Operating and Procedures manual.
  • Performance of these duties requires the physical activities that are listed below.
  • Schedules and coordinates Industrial Hygiene Assessments as well as assist in implementation of identified recommendations for improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, Requirements:

  • 3-7 years safety related experience and/or training.
  • B.S. in Occupational Safety & Health, Safety Sciences or related degree from an accredited educational institution preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have communication skills; able to speak in front of large groups and effectively communicate safety-related presentations.
  • Bi-lingual required (Spanish)
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Basic computer, MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel knowledge and skills
  • Must be willing and able to work days, evenings, and possible weekends
  • Willingness to travel
  • Valid Driver’s License

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Preferred: ASP, STSC, CHST, GSP

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and customers.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables simultaneously.
