Assistant Director of Nursing Job Description Description:

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) works directly with the Director of Nursing (DON) to oversee all functions of the nursing services department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards governing assisted living facilities with the goal of ensuring that the highest degree of quality care can be provided to our residents at all times.

The right candidate for the ADON position will possess the following qualities:
* Excellent time management skills and the ability to delegate tasks when necessary and appropriate; Identify key tasks and critical sequential steps.
* The ability to anticipate and systematically analyze problems and opportunities, analyze reasonable alternatives, and take action in a timely manner.
* Demonstrate sound judgment and be able to efficiently allocate and manage resources.
* The ability to adjust to changes in tasks and priorities.
* Open-minded and tries to understand others’ points of view.
* Seeks, accepts and acts on feedback.

The ADON’s job duties include:
* Oversee the day to day operation and care of residents, primarily in the Memory Care unit.
* Supervise caregivers and the on-duty supervisors.
* Complete quarterly and annual care plan reviews for residents in the Memory Care unit.
* Ensure that all caregiving personnel are aware of the care plan and that care plans are used in providing daily services to the resident.
* Conduct care conferences with families and relevant outside providers on an annual and an as needed basis; assist with coordinating outside resources for residents as needed.
* Serve as a family liaison and advise the Director of Nursing when a family member is concerned.
* Complete assessments for prospective residents and determine appropriateness for the assisted living environment.
* Deal with outside contract resources including pharmacy, primary care providers, and hospice organizations.
* Facility scheduling on a monthly basis.
* Assist in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, evaluating, disciplining and terminating nursing services personnel; document and coordinate personnel actions with the Direct of Nursing or the Administrator.
* Review personnel complaints and grievances and ensure that all personnel are treated consistent with policies and applicable laws.
* Ensure care staff are properly and thoroughly trained to provide competent, safe resident care; facilitate new caregiver training on a continuous basis.
* Assist in developing and monitoring adequate and cost effective inventory control procedures; make periodic inspections of supplies and equipment to ensure that adequate levels are maintained and that equipment is available and working properly.
* Other duties as assigned or delegated by the Direct of Nursing or Administrator.

This position does include on-call hours. Call is taken on a rotating basis with the other Maple Springs of Anchorage nurses, including the DON. On-call expectations include:
* Must be reachable by phone 24 hours/day while on call.
* Triaging resident emergencies, such as falls and change in status.
* Answering medication questions from med techs.
* Giving approval for PRN medications.

Required Qualifications:
* Current and unencumbered Registered Nurse license with the State of Alaska.
* Current CPR certification or the ability to obtain one before start date.
* Experience caring for patients with dementia.
* 1 year of experience in a hospital, assisted living, long-term care, or other healthcare related community.
* Ability to read and write in a legible and understandable manner. Must speak and understand English.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Prior experience with PointClickCare EHR system.
* Prior management experience.
* Customer service experience.
