Overview:

We are looking for a Managing Media Specialist to join our award-winning Reputation Capability as a part of its Earned Media Team. The MMS will be a part of a US-based team that sits on the frontlines of proactive earned media engagement on behalf of Ketchum's wide range of clients. Most importantly, they will embody our team values - curiosity, courageousness and commitment. They will work side by side with members of our media team, agency partners and clients, providing world-class media counsel, building boundary-pushing media strategies and telling the stories that matter to our clients and to media. They will not only have deep connections with top-tier media, but they will also have an understanding of the media landscape and what it takes to tell a company's story today, amidst an ever-changing external climate, complex competitive landscape and evolving consumer mindset. We are primarily looking for someone who can work with business / corporate media and this person will have the opportunity to work across some of the agency's most interesting clients that will be well-matched to their existing skills and will present opportunities for growth.

About the job:

Client Management Responsibilities:
  • A willingness to be embedded on client account teams that align to existing and desired media expertise
  • With a focus on media counsel and media engagement, develop a consultative relationship between team members, account teams and key client contacts to include regular and proactive engagement, and direct correspondence with teams and clients
  • Ability to quickly synthesize what it takes to make something mediable in the ever-changing media landscape
  • Ability to build and execute, with precision, a media strategy
  • Ability to write media materials - press releases, statements, talking points, pitches
  • Ability to staff media interviews, both in person and virtually
  • Willingness to travel for client media engagements
  • Demonstrated obsession with earned media - understanding both individual journalists and the outlets they work for
Leadership:
  • Actively shape the Earned Media Team's POV on media relations and strategy; be recognized as an agency media expert
  • Play a role with the Earned Media Team both in the office and virtually to reinforce the values of our team
  • Internally and externally increase visibility for best practices, trends, developments in media relations
  • Willingness to mentor staff across teams
  • Willingness to collaborate across geographies and across industries to deliver for clients
Business Development:
  • Collaborate with account teams to uncover incremental business opportunities
  • Lead media strategy portion of new business proposal and presentation processes
Qualifications:

We're looking for required skills, and they can come from any combination of education and experience. Diversity of thought and background are encouraged. Typical qualifications include:
  • Seven years of combined public relations, marketing communications, or media experience
  • Demonstrated success in tier one media relations including a strategic understanding of established and emerging media verticals
  • Relationships with tier one media in business and corporate verticals
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, meet deadlines, and keep manager and team effectively updated
  • Excellent verbal, written, project management and presentation skills
The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, education, years of experience, past training, skills and abilities of applicant, internal equity and local geographic market data.
