Civil Engineer

Moreno Cardenas Inc. (MCi) Consulting Engineers – El Paso is currently recruiting for a full-time civil field engineer. Will be responsible for the construction activities for the Substation and Transmission departments. Performs constructability reviews during the design stage, assists in the bidding and procurement activities and monitors the construction following standard industry practices.
What You Bring:
- A Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree from an accredited university
- A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in civil engineering and/or construction
- Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate with or without reasonable accommodation that the essential functions of the job can be performed
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code as it pertains to substation and transmission civil facilities preferred; fundamentals of electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, civil engineering design and techniques, civil construction methods and specifications, project estimating and scheduling, and applicable standards
- Ability to coordinate, organize and prioritize tasks, perform complex calculations and operate personal computer with engineering software AutoCAD and structural software applications
- Ability to understand civil designs for control house, dead end towers, transformers, pads, cantilever structures stresses, pipes deflections, etc., calculates cost estimates, and prepare comprehensive reports for the construction process.
- Ability to analyze drainage and grading designs, geotechnical studies, topographic information data
- Ability to perform complex engineering analysis, meet project deadlines, and prepare civil designs
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with officers, managers, fellow employees, and the general public
- Ability to maintain a strong sense of propriety concerning confidential matters
What You’ll Do:
- Assist in preparing the civil engineering design plans and drawings for the construction of new and/or existing substation and transmission facilities and related components
- Assist in preparing cost estimates for capital budgets on the construction and maintenance of substations
- Prepare economic analysis on engineering alternatives to facilities and equipment
- Prepare bid specifications for the civil construction, expansion and modification of substation facilities and equipment
- Identify and manage maintenance projects
- Assist in the monitoring of the substation and transmission asset maintenance plan
- Assist with the planning and budget of construction of future substation facilities
- Analyze asset performance data to forecast maintenance requirements and report issues and risks
- Create, in collaboration with crew Supervisor’s, civil work-related procedures
- Ensures NERC and WECC compliance work is completed and documented appropriately
- Assist in documenting the material standards and addresses general construction material issues
- Performs site visits for initial scoping of the project and during construction
- Identify and document substation maintenance best practices and procedures
- Assist in project justifications for capitalized maintenance construction projects
- Assist in the procurement of material for maintenance projects
- Assist in the maintenance of material inventory
- Perform other related tasks that are not included but within the context of the duties defined
