General Summary
Under the direction of the Regional Coordinator, the School-Age Program Center Director has overall accountability for the quality and success of the program operation, its students, and staff. The primary responsibility of the Director is to manage the day-to-day operations of the preschool program. The Director has the ability to effectively manage, develop, direct and lead both staff and center program. Position requires working knowledge, skill and ability to develop and follow licensing requirements (Title 22 and/or Title 5) and NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), and/or Desired Results standards. In addition, positions require the ability to:
- Research, analyze and propose program strategies that meet PACCC and center objectives;
- Monitor and evaluate existing programs against current trends;
- Design new and revise approaches to program to assure equity, legal compliance and competitiveness;
- Provide guidance and develop staff in the use of age-appropriate program trends and tools such as NAEYC /Desired Results standards;
- Work pro-actively with PACCC administration demonstrating strong teamwork ability;
- Maintain confidentiality and represent PACCC in a positive manner at all times.
Education and Experience
Demonstrated significant knowledge of child care programs and licensing requirements as would be obtained through the attainment of a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development or a related field. Five or more years of supervisory and program development experience, two of which should include staff supervisory and program development experience, is preferred. Must possess or be able to complete three or more semester units in Early Childhood Program Administration. Must possess Child Development Site Supervisor permit.
Afterschool Programs
Minimum qualifications: Completion of 24 semester units in Early Childhood Education, including Core* units, OR Completion of 24 semester units in any area of the following: Recreation, Physical Education, Human Services, Social Welfare, Nursing, Psychology, Sociology, Home Economics, ECE, Child Development or School Age classes. In addition, all applicants must possess the equivalent of 3 semester units in an administrative course.
Preferred qualifications: Any combination of education and experiences equivalent to graduation from a four-year college with a major in Child Development or related field is preferred. Previous experience with Desired Results assessments is preferred.
Additional Requirements*
- Must be vaccinated for measles and pertussis; must obtain annual flu vaccine or provide a signed declination form; must be tested for TB upon hire.
- Must complete a pre-employment physical.
- Must complete and pass a fingerprint background clearance check.
