Credit Risk Analyst

Company Description
OatFi is a full-stack credit risk infrastructure provider, enabling embedded B2B payments and lending. Our platform manages underwriting, risk coverage, funding, and capital markets to support working capital products embedded within B2B payment flows.
Credit for Small and Medium Businesses is the largest unsolved lending segment in the U.S. Traditional lenders struggle with the high cost of acquiring quality customers, the risk posed by underperforming businesses, and the lack of data needed to differentiate between the two. Fintech providers of B2B payments, marketplaces, and business workflow solutions understand that lending is essential to their destination revenue model, but the costs and complexities of establishing their own internal programs are prohibitive, except at the largest scale.
Our API-only solution is unique in the fintech industry, providing our partners with unparalleled flexibility and creativity to enable a variety of front-end workflows and customer experiences. These experiences offer direct access to customers, rich proprietary data, and the ability to create risk-advantaged product solutions. Together, we are addressing the enormous unmet needs of our business customers, enabling their growth and success.
We’ve already achieved our first milestone in under six months and are well on our way to the next. At OatFi, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of B2B payments and lending as we scale to tackle this massive opportunity. Your contributions each day will have a direct and meaningful impact on the future we are building.
Job Description
Credit risk management is our core business. As a Credit Risk Analyst at OatFi, you will be at the heart of what we do every day. You won’t have to fight for resources with other product categories or hope that your leadership understands the importance of credit risk management. From our investors to our C-suite, we have decades of experience building lending businesses and know what it takes to succeed.
We have established the core structures and capabilities to put you immediately in the driver’s seat of credit analysis and decision-making. A broad set of data, numerous existing partnerships, dedicated engineering resources, and the ability to deploy new automated decisions in minutes will empower you to make an immediate impact. You’ll also receive support and coaching from our experienced leadership team to maximize your current skills while continuing to grow in your expertise.
Despite the existing structure and support, this role is very much an opportunity to be a founding member of the OatFi risk team. We are not simply deploying what exists elsewhere, but creating new approaches to define the future of our business and the industry. In this role, you will have visibility into dozens of B2B fintech companies, provide direction on how to build successful credit products, and help discover or create winning strategies across the industry. There is much more to build and learn as we develop and scale the best credit capabilities in the industry.
Responsibilities
- Analyze performance trends of new and existing customers to identify or refine indicators of credit and fraud risks
- Update automated credit policy decision flows to incorporate new insights
- Conduct manual reviews of individual edge cases or experimental underwriting decisions to make real-time credit and limit decisions for customers
- Assist with collection activities to understand and improve the full life cycle of lending, from repayment to recovery
- Monitor partner and portfolio trends to measure risk and return performance, and identify areas for improvement
- Help design and enhance our data environment to facilitate more efficient, impactful, and automated credit actions
- Collaborate with the lead credit engineer to design improvements to our credit risk infrastructure
- Interact with partners and prospects to develop effective risk and reward trade-offs for the customers of their platforms
- Work with our Capital Markets team to understand key funding constraints and collaborate on improving the flexibility of our funding options
- Partner with the implementation team to ensure that credit risk rules and concerns are adequately addressed during partner setup and execution
- Research new data sources, tools, and techniques to augment the credit actions taken by OatFi
Minimum Qualifications
- 2-5 years of experience in credit analysis, underwriting, business analysis, or consulting.
- Experience in fintech, banking, or financial services
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., computer science, engineering, math, business, finance, or economics)
- Strong interest in exploring business models, financial product design, and return analysis
- Willingness and ability to handle a range of tasks required to achieve ambitious goals—dream, strategize, design, build, implement, and execute as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 to 3+ years of experience in credit analysis or underwriting
- Previous experience with small business or commercial banking products and customers
- Exposure to financial services and a strong understanding of various lending and trade finance products
- Familiarity with SQL, Python, and Snowflake
OatFi Culture
As an early employee at OatFi, you will play a crucial role in building our company culture and upholding our values – Be Kind, Be Curious, and Be Effective.
We are a team of tinkerers, truth seekers, and doers who love to collaborate. We embrace challenging problems and are always ready to help a teammate in need. We check our egos at the door, striving for the best outcomes for our team, stakeholders, and partners alike.
OatFi’s office is based in NYC, and we are focused on building a strong in-office culture. However, we are also open to hiring remote candidates if they are the right fit for our team.
