Technical Development Scientist II

Job Location: 4625 NE Brookwood Parkway, Hillsboro, OR


Job Overview:

We are seeking a Technical Development Scientist II to join our Cell Culture and Bioprocess Operations team. The selected candidate will support high-throughput protein production using mammalian transient cultures, contributing to early-stage research and development projects. This role offers the opportunity to work with innovative technologies, including bioreactors, liquid handlers, and wave bag reactors, while playing a key part in advancing our research portfolio.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform transient transfections in CHO and HEK293 cells at scales ranging from 1mL to 25L, adhering to established protocols.
  • Maintain seed train cell cultures in bioreactors and shake flasks.
  • Operate liquid handlers (Tecan and Hamilton) for automated processes.
  • Operate wave bag reactors for protein production and cell maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain essential cell culture instruments, such as Vi-Cell, Nova Flex2, Nova Flex, Cedex, and bioreactors.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and optimizing production or platform processes.
  • Contribute to lab management, data management, and platform development.
  • Support efforts to improve existing cell culture platforms and develop new methods for delivering diverse protein and cellular reagents.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures, practice sterile techniques, and maintain accurate documentation. Report deviations in a timely manner.


Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in Biotechnology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field with 0-2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in suspension-adapted mammalian cell culture (CHO and/or HEK293).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong collaborative and problem-solving abilities.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in transient and stable protein expression.
  • Hands-on experience with bioreactors.
  • Proficiency in using automation tools such as Tecan Freedom Evo and Hamilton Microlab Star.
  • Knowledge of cell biology, cell engineering, molecular biology, recombinant protein purification, and protein characterization.
