Job Description:

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists physicians in the care of patients in the office, including screening and diagnostic workup of patients.
  • Works in collaboration with the physicians to assess the physical needs of the patient and implement a plan of care. Develops and

maintains own practice panels.

  • Evaluates, interprets, and records results of tests (Laboratory, Radiology, etc.), and reports results to physicians.
  • Responds to telephone calls from patients, pharmacies, etc., to meet the patients' needs. Communicates examination results to patients

by telephone and/or letter.

  • Coordinates and supervises the overall patient flow to ensure a smooth patient turnover. Provides patient and staff education.
  • Assists in developing education materials for patients.
  • Manages patient care activities in the absence of the primary physician.
  • Develops and participates in quality assurance activities.
  • Maintains accurate encounter forms for billing purposes. Provides diagnosis and treatment plan for insurance companies as requested.
  • Works under direction of the PAMA Practice Manager.

Organizational Responsibilities

  • Follows hospital and department policies with special attention to safety, dress, attendance and punctuality, and display of ID badge.

Subscribes to hospital’s mission statement, code of ethics, and standards of conduct.

  • Handles all work-related information in a confidential manner, as outlined in Confidentiality Policy B.91. Recognizes and respects each

patient’s right to privacy, and understands that this is protected by statute. Understands that looking up patient information not needed for job

duties is prohibited and is grounds for immediate dismissal.

  • Treats customers with courtesy and compassion and responds to requests in a timely manner.
  • Works effectively with members of the team so that they meet constantly changing needs and deliver care that is customer oriented and

cost effective.

  • Demonstrates initiative and creativity to continuously improve services, departmental and interdepartmental processes, and any other

activities that affect quality.

  • Plans, organizes, and renders care for (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric) patients within an assigned area.
  • Performs work responsibilities while staying in compliance with all

applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Understands and agrees to uphold theHospital Compliance Plan.

Patient Safety

  • When taking a telephone order, writes the order on the Doctor’s Orders, reads the order back to the MD and document as a TORB.
  • When taking a verbal order, repeats the order back to the MD prior to implementing the order and documents as a VORB.
  • Uses only accepted abbreviations when documenting in the medical record.
  • Uses two unique patient identifiers prior to treatment or patient transport.
  • Consistently uses sharps devices as designed to prevent injury.
  • Complies with Isolation Guidelines; wears appropriate personal protective equipment as required by specific patient precautions.
  • Consistently complies with CDC Handwashing Guidelines. Cleans hands before and after patient contact, or contact with patient

environment.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required

Physician Assistant licensure. Massachusetts/Federal narcotic license.

  • Three years of clinical experience in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
  • Registered nurse with Massachusetts licensure and certification to practice in an expanded role.
  • Ability to gather and interpret data for the diagnosis and management of medical conditions.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with physician and administrative input as necessary.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Busy medical practice environment. Flexibility in hours to meet the demands of the practice.
  • Some exposure to patients and related hazards when performing procedures (Laboratory, EKG, etc.).
