Physician (Section Chief – Ambulatory Care Service), Dallas VAMC (Recruitment‑Relocation Incentive) U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is recruiting for a Physician (Section Chief – Ambulatory Care Service) at the Tyler VA Primary Care Clinic – Tyler, Texas. The Section Chief will lead healthcare professionals in providing primary care to Veteran patients. A Recruitment/Relocation Incentive may be authorized for a highly qualified candidate. Posted 2 weeks ago – Be among the first 25 applicants. Pay Range Base pay: $225,000 – $300,000 per year. This range is provided by U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs; actual pay is based on skills and experience. The Incentive includes a sign‑on bonus and annual performance bonus. Qualifications United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Licensure and Registration: Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a state, territory, or the District of Columbia and active DEA license. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies include those accredited by the ACGME or AOA, or other residencies (non‑US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States) that the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems appropriate. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; they will have a scope of practice that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Physical Requirements: see outlined below. English Language Proficiency: Physicians appointed to direct patient‑care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. § 7402(d) and § 7407(d). Preferred Experience: Board Certified/Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine; experience running a PACT team, collaborating with other services to improve patient experience, using quality indicators, and evaluating performance of those under them. Able to anticipate vacancies, plan for clinic coverage, hold employees accountable, and ensure excellent care for Veterans. Physical Requirements Moderate lifting of 15‑44 pounds; moderate carrying under 15‑44 pounds; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; walking for 8 hours; both legs required. Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" (Jaeger 1 to 4); far vision correctable to 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other; both eyes required. Hearing (aid may be permitted). Duties & Responsibilities The Section Chief is assigned to the Associate Chief of Staff – Ambulatory Care Service and is responsible for overall day‑to‑day supervision of primary care providers. Require travel between Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) as needed and oversee one or more CBOCs. The physician (PACT) is accountable for adhering to established policies and standards of care in evaluating, tracking, and following up on patient care. Collaborate with health‑care professionals to provide longitudinal case management of the PCP’s entire PACT panel, with independent care delivery for acute/same‑day needs or when otherwise requested by the PCP. Provide independent care delivery for chronic and acute/same‑day medical needs, including history and physical, medication management, evaluation of diagnostic tests, treatment planning, and clinical reminder completion as applicable. Functions as a leader in the PACT approach, emphasizing a team‑based approach to health care. Oversee PACT compliance to Message Manager, MyHealtheVet, and encounter completion. Proficient in Tele‑Health to home visits (VA Video Connect) and Comprehensive Women’s Health care. Document all medical information in an electronic medical record and perform medication reconciliation. Other duties as assigned. Work schedule: Monday – Friday (8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.).
