This position performs skilled work in the installation, repair and maintenance of water and sewer lines. Install, maintain, repair and replace utility lines and accessoriesPerform water and sewer taps and service connectionsInstall water metersFlush sewer lines and manholesLocate water and sewer linesInstall, test and repair water meters and fire hydrantsPerform routine bacterial and CL2 tests; add necessary chemicals to sewer linesPerform minor landscaping on property following completion of workOperate trucks, tractors, back-hoes and mechanical equipment in connection with above tasksWill be available for on-call duties as assignedCompletes work requests as generated by other departmentsAssist in snow and ice removalMust report to work in, and wear at all times on the job, steel-toed safety boots of an acceptable standard, effective the first scheduled workday.Perform other duties as requiredRequirementsEducation: High School Diploma or GEDExperience: One (1) year of general work experience required; water and sewer line work experience preferredValid Drivers LicenseCDL Class B with tanker and air brake endorsement required at time of hire or within six (6) months of employmentFlagging certification required within six (6) months of employmentQualificationsKnowledge of the tools, materials, and equipment used in the installation, replacement, maintenance, and repair of water and sewer linesGeneral knowledge of hand and power toolsAbility to communicate in a clear and concise manner both orally and in writingAbility to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely mannerPossess organization and multi-tasking skillsAbility to follow directionsAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, coworkers, and other departmentsAbility to work for extended periods of time, often under unfavorable conditionsWork EnvironmentWork is performed outdoors.
