Job Purpose and Focus
This entry-level position is viewed as a career step in school administration. The successful candidate will assist in building level matters related to the administration and supervision as assigned by the principal. This position will also provide leadership in the development, organization, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the athletic programs. The overall goal of this position is to encourage and support positive student formation and behavior and to engage parents/guardians in the success of their children.

Essential Qualifications and Requirements
  • Master's degree in educational administration preferred
  • Administrator certification or meet the requirements to obtain certification
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience in education.
  • Shall have experience supervising athletics at the secondary level.
  • Willingness to comply with state continuing education requirements
  • Previous successful leadership experience
  • Coaching experience preferred
  • Successful experiences with a diverse student and parent population
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the assessment of learning
  • Ability to work with building principal to build budget and fiscal recommendations
  • Strong knowledge of interscholastic athletic organization, scheduling, and competition
  • Ability to promote athletics within the district and community
  • Patience, reliability, problem solving ability, as well as diplomacy and negotiation skills

Essential Functions and Representative Duties
  • Participate as a member of the administrative team of the district
  • Assist the principal in the coordination of administrative and supervisory services of the building
  • Serve in the absence of the principal as the chief building administrator
  • Manage student supervision issues and enforce school behavioral expectations
  • Engage staff and parents in developing student behavioral expectations
  • Develop and/or manage student attendance policy
  • Oversee the athletic activities budget; approve all athletic expenditures, follow District procedures for ordering.
  • Administer all Michigan High School Athletics Association (MHSAA) rules and regulations including transfer rules
  • Attend and supervise or designate the supervision of District athletic contests
  • Serve as the District representative to league meetings and events
  • Manage the planning, developing, and implementing of individual student behavioral plans
  • Serve as a resource to staff in dealing with classroom management
  • Assist in developing programs to promote positive student behavior as well as intervention strategies
  • Implement and enforce local eligibility policy
  • Work with coaches and principals regarding problems of discipline concerning athletics
  • Schedule all athletic contests and complete season schedules for each sport. Coordinate with the school maintenance and custodial staff to set up facilities for all activities
  • Work with transportation department and coaches to arrange transportation for athletic teams when necessary
  • Monitor facilities and recommend maintenance and upgrades to Assistant Superintendent
  • Coordinate the use of all school athletic facilities by groups outside the school with the respective Principal or Community Education Supervisor
  • Ensure that annual equipment and uniform inventories are conducted by head coaches and assist head coaches in updating equipment/uniforms
  • Act as a liaison for the athletic program to local media and between coaches and athletic booster clubs.
  • Develop and implement individual, small group, and large group intervention strategies to increase the likelihood that students will stay in school.
  • Develop a plan for parent involvement, including specific goals and strategies to proactively engage parents, and to inspire them to support their child and the school
  • Assist in certified and non-certified staff evaluations as well as annual coaching performance assessments
  • Work with administration to create and maintain a comprehensive program for student activities that emphasizes positive public relations, sportsmanship, coaching performance and student recognition
  • Assume responsibility for professional growth and development through memberships and participation in the affairs of professional organizations, through attendance at regional, state, and national meetings, and through enrollment in advanced courses, workshops, etc.
  • Assist in staff development program
  • Assist in the testing program
  • Assist in the day-to-day building operations
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Terms of Employment
Wages and benefits as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between The Board of Education and the Carman-Ainsworth Administrators Association, level 4 for 46 weeks.

Work Environment
Must be able to work within various degrees of noise and activity. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. Must be able to work toward district goals.

Evaluation/Performance Measurements
The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy and the Collective Bargaining Agreement with Carman-Ainsworth Administrator's Association. Yearly - Rotation of Formative followed by Summative Evaluation. Criteria for performance include but are not limited to:
