Assistant Regional Accounting Director – Southwest Region Join to apply for the Assistant Regional Accounting Director role at HDR. We are placing an Assistant Regional Accounting Director for our Southwest Region. This position reports to a Regional Accounting Director and is funded and managed by the national finance and accounting budget. It is responsible for organizing and directing core accounting activities for multiple managed cost centers and project‑financial activities. These include ensuring accurate and timely review and processing of employee timesheets, expense reports, accounts payable, billing and accounts receivable, internal cost recovery, and various other accounting and financial management functions. The role will provide assurance to Area managers, Regional Operations and Business Group Leadership, and the Senior Accounting Director that practices and procedures are followed in accordance with HDR policies, business standards, accounting principles, contractual obligations and government compliance standards. It partners with Area leadership to analyze financial statements and metrics and work to continually improve performance. Specialized Assistant Regional Accounting Director Functions Assist the Area Manager(s) and Regional Accounting Director with the production and compilation of annual operating budgets for local operations areas, including analysis of the Rolling 12/Rolling Forecast backlog tool. Monthly revenue review & manual revenue adjustments; prepare for monthly revenue recognition meetings. Organize, assist, and/or lead monthly revenue recognition meetings with local Area Operations leadership teams. Review, analyze and communicate financial results with local Operations leadership with guidance from the Regional Accounting Director. Review area profit/loss statements; research and report notable expense variances. Research, analyze and report financial trends & statistics based on requests by Area Managers with support and direction from the Regional Accounting Director. Lead, mentor, train and support local Operations Accounting staff with assistance from the Regional Accounting Director. Assist with project management training initiatives, information system training and process/procedure improvements, emphasizing government contracting and FAR compliance, as well as compliance with FASB Revenue Standard 606. Attend and participate in Project/Business Reviews at the request of Area Manager/Managing Principal, Project Accountant or Regional Accounting Director. This role is an important leadership position within the organization and is performed most effectively in an office environment. Project Accounting Functions Oversee all facets of project and contract financial management, ensuring accurate contract documentation and administration throughout the life cycle. Provide research and data for Project Managers, Area Managers and other stakeholders regarding project financial status. Resolve outstanding accounts receivable issues. Understand Area Management reporting needs and provide solutions. Ensure best practices, guidelines and business standards are followed in accordance with the Project Accounting Portal. Utilize Business Intelligence Projects Dashboard for ongoing project reviews, business reviews and ad‑hoc discussions with Project Managers. Ensure the Project Closeout process is followed and closeouts are performed timely. Maintain and approve employee timesheets in accordance with HDR timekeeping policy and procedures, including processing timecard adjustments. Review costs and ensure employee expense reports are submitted and approved per HDR expense report procedures and Travel & Business Expense policy. Confirm accounts payable functions are performed per HDR accounts payable procedures. Coordinate with Procurement for purchase requisitions & work confirmations per Procurement policies and procedures. Ensure internal cost recovery functions are performed. Support local Area Accounting Manager(s) or Project Accountant(s) to ensure client invoicing meets contractual requirements and HDR guidelines. Preferred Qualifications Degree in Accounting CPA Certificate Holder Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a closely related field or combination of education and relevant experience. Minimum of 5 years of experience; an advanced degree may offset years of experience. Proficiency with MS Office including Word and Outlook. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Flexibility and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and collaborate with various managers in a fast‑paced environment. Self‑motivated, well‑organized and detail‑oriented. Ability to handle confidential information. An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture is a must.
