Instrumentation and Control Engineer

Position Overview
Under general supervision, you will be responsible for engineering functions related to Electrical and Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Engineering). You will work independently with minimal supervision, applying your knowledge of electrical and I&C engineering concepts. Additionally, you may guide our employees to ensure the development of high-quality, timely, and cost-effective engineering solutions for technical issues.
Qualifications and Education
- Degree: A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is required.
- Advanced Education: An advanced degree in engineering is preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in large, modern power plants (or equivalent training and education) related to the construction, operation, and maintenance of electrical and instrumentation and control systems. Experience should include the creation of technical specifications, economic studies, evaluations, and solving complex technical problems. Practical experience with complex Distributed Control Systems (DCS) is essential.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with NERC standards and procedures is desirable. A Professional Engineer registration in Florida or an advanced engineering degree may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver expert technical guidance to develop, manage, and execute engineering analyses and programs.
- Provide technical advice to troubleshoot and resolve plant equipment and system issues.
- Support the creation of procedures, design improvements, and equipment purchase recommendations.
- Prepare and review design modifications and calculations following applicable standards and procedures.
- Develop technical specifications, pricing documents, bidder lists, evaluation criteria, and cost estimates for process systems and maintenance projects.
- Work with technical staff and/or the Engineering Supervisor to analyze complex plant operation or maintenance issues, and suggest solutions such as design changes or alternative equipment.
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Operations, Maintenance) and Station Leadership on plant issues and improvements.
- Offer support during outages, urgent issues, and generation challenges, which may require working outside regular hours.
- Take responsibility for assigned systems/components and advocate for system performance enhancements.
- Analyze failures in control systems, instrumentation, and electrical equipment to identify causes and recommend preventive measures.
- Develop and implement monitoring plans for assigned systems/components to ensure safe and reliable performance.
- Assist DCS Administrators with troubleshooting and recommend modifications to DCS systems.
- Oversee the work of external consultants as needed.
- Adhere to safety regulations, complete required safety training, and participate in safety meetings.
- Follow environmental regulations, complete necessary environmental courses, and report any environmental incidents immediately.
- Fulfill NERC Compliance Program roles as designated, ensuring evidence is maintained in an “audit-ready” state.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to access all areas of the plant and grounds, including climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
- Compliance with safety protocols, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and a clean Motor Vehicle Report.
Working Conditions
- May involve travel and work outside regular business hours.
- Potential exposure to typical industrial hazards in certain plant areas.
