Position Summary This position is being recruited as a primary faculty rank with a secondary non‑faculty director role. Applicants must be able to hold a primary faculty rank in a School of Medicine Department. The Director role is secondary to the primary faculty rank. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a highly qualified physician‑scientist or physician researcher (MD or MD‑PhD) to serve as the inaugural Director for the Carolina Institute for Neurodevelopmental Disorders (CIND). The Director will serve in an at‑will administrative capacity at the pleasure of the Dean of the School of Medicine and hold faculty rank in an appropriate academic department. The Director will report to the Vice Dean for Research and the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements MD, MD/PhD, or DO (required). Academic experience on a national/international level supporting a professorial appointment in an appropriate academic department within the School of Medicine. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Significant leadership experience; a proven, highly effective leader. Demonstrated excellence in attracting, recruiting, and developing world‑class scientific and clinical leaders; team building, vision and strategy setting, and execution of multi‑faced decisions. Strong understanding of neurodevelopmental disorders, clinical research and clinical operations in a highly matrixed, multidisciplinary and interprofessional environment. Experience with external relations including legislative advocacy, community engagement and philanthropy. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Proven track record of research excellence and previous leadership experience in academic medicine. Proficiency in budget management and financial analysis on a significant/similar scale. Campus Security Authority Responsibilities This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. The director will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. Site and Institution Overview The Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities (CIDD) provides world‑class services, research, and training in developmental disabilities. The institute includes the NC University Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), the NC Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disorders Program (LEND), and the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (IDDRC). The UNC TEACCH Autism Program operates seven community‑regional clinics and offers diagnostic evaluations, therapy services, and parent support.
