Department Overview

PG&E IT is a unified organization composed of various departments which collaborate effectively to plan, deliver, and operate high quality technology solutions. Grid and Control Center technology department is in the process of embarking major transformation journey implementing ADMS (Advanced Distribution Management System), DERMS (Distributed Energy resource management system) and supports & maintains legacy applications within Electric distribution & transmission and Gas area to meet identified business goals and priorities.

 

Position Summary

  • We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Test Lead. The role of a Test Expert for an Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) is a critical position. This professional is responsible for overseeing the testing activities to ensure the software meets the highest quality standards. The Test Expert must have experience with SCADA systems, outage management systems, and other advanced applications integral to the ADMS including Control Center Applications.
  • The Test Expert plays a pivotal role in the deployment and maintenance of an ADMS that is safe, reliable, and capable of integrating distributed energy resources to enhance the overall quality of service.  He must lead the mapping of environments needed for different test objectives.
  • Effective communication skills are essential, as the Test Expert will need to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders


PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  We would not anticipate that the individual hired into this role would land at or near the top half of the range described below, but the decision will be dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.​

 

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum:  $118,000

Bay Area Maximum: $188,000

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of testers, assigning tasks, providing guidance, and ensuring collaboration among team members.
  • Hands on work experience from test planning through test execution of all testing activities in scope accomplished. Perform functional, API & Integration, System, Data Migration, Performance, Regression, Compatibility, Network modeling testing and User Acceptance tests, execute and document/log the tests, evaluate the results and document.
  • Monitor quality metrics to measure test coverage, test effectiveness and overall software quality. Regularly audit Testers’ work, ensuring they follow the TCoE policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for reporting on test progress, tracking problem reports, and determining whether test phase exit criteria is achieved
  • Develop test strategy, test plans and test scripts, including conditions and expected results, in accordance with IT standards to sufficiently test the product.
  • Coordinate the setup of the test environment with the cross functional teams.
  • Prepare or create test data to thoroughly test program logic and verify system flow. Tests ADMS’ interfaces to other operational and enterprise systems based on related requirements: 1) Data quality, Transformation, Flow, Messaging, Scheduling, and Timing. 2) Event triggers and other related scenarios.
  • Support and assist with User Acceptance test: partner with business client and validate end-to-end data quality for end-to-end business processes.
  • Work closely with business leads and enhance the regression test suite as required to achieve maximum coverage through automation.  Create test summary reports and risk analysis for business client acceptance.
  • Provide consulting expertise for applications and software being tested by others as needed.
  • Manage defects in the Defect Tracking System (ALM) ensuring issues are assigned and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of testing processes and methodologies, identify areas for improvement, and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Transfer: Ensure comprehensive documentation of test artifacts, processes, and outcomes, facilitating knowledge transfer and future reference for maintenance test documents.
  • Provide test automation strategy and implement a scalable framework that can be leveraged for automation.

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • BA/BS in Computer Science/Information Systems, Business, Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years of experience in similar or related job functions
  • Experience in testing complex programs such as Energy Management System (EMS), Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), Outage Management System (OMS), SCADA and participation in programs of high complexity


Desired:

  • Master’s degree or some graduate coursework
  • Hands on experience in test automation tools or worked in CI/CD environments
  • Strong business understanding and advanced expertise in many functional areas and/or systems for the business unit(s) supported
  • Expert knowledge of test management tools (e.g. ALM Quality Center (Application Lifecycle Management) and Jira tools), including in-depth expertise of leading test planning though test execution
  • Working knowledge of relational databases, including database querying
  • Ability to lead testing efforts with various OT, IT, and Vendor teams to ensure successful implementation and testing of applications within the ADMS environment
  • Strong business understanding and advanced expertise in many functional areas and/or systems for the business unit(s) supported. Ability to create and maintain a Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) to ensure full test coverage
  • Experience in functional testing in Control Center applications
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with geographically distributed cross-functional teams
  • Must know and understand testing life cycles from a Waterfall and Agile perspective
  • Master knowledge of Test Automation/Performance Tools (e.g. Tricentis TOSCA,  Unified Functional Testing (UFT) Automation)
