Summary
Vice President of Medical Affairs, Child and Adolescent Services
Maine Behavioral Health / MaineHealth
Portland, Maine

Maine Behavioral Healthcare, an integrated behavioral health care network part of the MaineHealth system, is seeking a Vice President of Medical Affairs of Child and Adolescent Services.

Maine Behavioral Healthcare is looking for an innovative and passionate administrative leader and clinician; one who can continue to transform child and adolescent behavioral health offerings to meet the evolving behavioral health needs of its communities, keeping quality care and patients at the center of the work. This is a primarily system-level administrative role with the opportunity for clinical and academic responsibilities.

The Vice President of Medical Affairs of Child and Adolescent Services is responsible for assisting the Chief Medical Officer of Maine Behavioral Healthcare in the development and coordination of the medical/clinical philosophy of the care, at all levels, of children and adolescents across the health system.

This position will assist in identifying methods and ways of effectively coordinating and leveraging the array of psychiatric and behavioral health resources of MaineHealth local health system hospitals including Spring Harbor, the system's flagship behavioral health hospital; Southern Maine Health Care; Pen Bay Medical Center; Maine Medical Center; and others.

The Vice President of Medical Affairs also helps identify and initiate, with other members of intensive and ambulatory services, improvements in clinical care across the health system. This is a unique opportunity to impact the way inpatient and outpatient child and adolescent behavioral health services are delivered across the largest integrated health system in Northern New England.

This role has oversight of inpatient and ambulatory medical services related to child and adolescent behavioral health, with ambulatory medical directors of these respective services directly reporting to them and inpatient medical directors reporting to them in a matrixed structure. Overseeing issues of flow and access through behavioral health bed management and care models across the system are primary responsibilities of this role. This role works regularly with leaders spanning the MaineHealth system and is part of a close-knit colleague group that includes the VP of Medical Affairs, Adult Ambulatory Services and the VP of Medical Affairs, Adult Intensive/Inpatient Services.

The new Vice President of Medical Affairs of Child and Adolescent Services should be a gifted leader of people and operations, with demonstrated success in coaching, advising, and navigating complex situations with competence and authenticity. This person should also bring strong communications skills and a diplomatic, collaborative approach to the work. This person should also have an interest in working with medical students, residents, fellows, and other trainees from a variety of specialties.

Requirements:
1. Education: Graduate from an accredited school of medicine and board eligible in the field of psychiatry.
2. License/Certifications: Psychiatrist licensed by the State of Maine.
3. Experience: 10+ years of experience practicing developmentally focused psychiatry.
4. Substantial administrative/management experience.
5. Demonstrated expertise with the Autism and Developmental Disorders population through scholarship, program development and/or clinical experience.
6. High degree of technical skills, evidence of leadership qualities, and strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
7. Maintains membership of Spring Harbor Hospital/Maine Medical Center medical staff and appropriate clinical privileges.

To apply, please email CV and cover letter to Maggie McGauley, Executive and Provider Recruiter, at maggie.mcgauley@mainehealth.org.
