Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities:

Enrollment Services at LIU represents an integrated and coordinated cross-functional service in the areas of financial aid, student accounts and registration. The central principle of this division is to create a single point of service to improve student service processes, and allow for efficient, seamless and integrated levels of service. The LIU Enrollment Services Counselor will be a student's point of contact for everything at the University-from financial aid, student accounting, and registration, getting involved on campus and career development. The Counselor will foster a customer-focused, service-oriented environment. The Counselor is knowledgeable about all student benefits and functions of Financial Aid, Registrar, Student Accounting, Billing and Cashiering. This position identifies and anticipates student enrollment issues, resolves or establishes a viable and timely plan for resolution and follows-up on plans. The Counselor will work with a student one-on-one to create a success plan tailored to his/her needs, goals and interests, helping students to choose courses; select a major; find scholarships, internships and study abroad opportunities, and launch their careers. The LIU Enrollment Services Counselor will keep students on track toward graduation and enable them to make a seamless transition from college student to successful professional. Reporting to the Director of Enrollment Services, the counselor may specialize in and execute functions under the following areas: Financial Aid, Registrar and Bursar.

Principal Responsibilities:

* Serve as primary advisor and counselor for a working caseload of students.
* Prepare students for their transition to the university and integrate new students into the intellectual, cultural, and social life of the University.
* Assist in pre-enrollment, admissions, orientation, campus, and career activities reinforcing the importance of a collective, integrated college experience geared toward academic and career success.
* Provide academic advisement to each student, specifically through the progression of the initial registration upon acceptance to major/degree selection as it pertains to career interests and pursuits.
* Perform student services functions including assisting students with registration questions/processes; add/drop procedures, graduation information and basic student application questions.
* Provide career advisement and resources for the purpose of developing a timely career track congruent with students' academic pursuits.
* Assist with presentations of financial aid workshops, Orientation Day activities, Open Houses, and other departmental and student activities as assigned.
* Provide exemplary customer service by participating in the regular coverage of the Enrollment Services phone queue, answering question of students and their families on various financial and enrollment needs.
* Assist in the determination of the transfer credits for courses taken at postsecondary institutions by considering the educational quality of the learning experience.
* Assist with efforts for all financial aid functions in accordance with the New York State Financial Aid Administrators Association NYSFAAA.
* Coordinate with counterpart(s) on other campuses to ensure streamlined operations and a uniform LIU student experience.
* Other duties as assigned by Associate Directors/ Directors of Enrollment Services.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree required. Master's preferred.

Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience:

* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* High energy and enthusiasm to work with students and propel them toward success.
* Ability to design and implement innovative programs with a strong attention to detail.
* Interpersonal communication skills
* Computer skills/literacy

Working Conditions:

* At least 2-4 years of progressively professional experience in higher education, enrollment services, student affairs or academic affairs; sound judgment and decision-making skills.
* Flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, are required to execute the position's role responsibly.
* Occasional travel to/from other LIU campuses for the facilitation of trainings, meetings and other university functions.
