Postdoctoral Fellow Position in Cardiology and Metabolism

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is currently available in the laboratory of Dr. Leigh Goedeke in the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. If you are interested in helping to shape a new research group at one of the world's leading academic medical centers, this just might be the right position for you to consider.

In the Goedeke lab, we are interested in understanding how altered mitochondrial function-and more broadly metabolism-contributes to residual cardiovascular disease risk. Using a combination of in vivo physiology, molecular biology, stable isotope tracer methodology and integrative multi-omics, we aim to define the critical metabolic pathways that underlie atherosclerotic plaque progression and vulnerability. We are currently focused on two integrated areas of research: 1) identification of novel metabolic hubs that regulate traditional atherosclerotic risk factors and 2) mitochondrial energy metabolism and vessel wall heterogeneity in diabetic atherosclerosis.

More information on the Goedeke Lab can be found here: www.thegoedekelab.com

Position Description: We are looking for a self-motivated and creative individual who possess excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills. The successful applicant will be responsible for exciting translational basic science studies, working on projects both independently and in multi-laboratory collaborations alongside students, postdocs, fellows, technicians and other investigators. Expectations include those important for growing the fellow's research career including developing novel experimental tools; developing, writing and submitting grant proposals; preparing and publishing manuscripts; presenting at international/national meetings; supporting the supervision of laboratory research; training lab members in specific lab techniques; and tackling challenging scientific problems.

Position Location: New York, New York

Requirements: The applicant should have command of the English language, good interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills, critical thinking ability and evidence of experience in writing skills through first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals. The applicant must also be an enthusiastic team player.

Educational Requirements: PhD or MD in life sciences or related discipline from an accredited institution

Other Requirements:

- Proficiency with common lab equipment and techniques

- Basic research lab experience in molecular & cellular biology and rodent work

- Prior experience with mouse models of atherosclerosis, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, and/or single cell RNA-seq is preferred

- Prior success in securing research and scholarship funding is preferred

Interested applicants should send a cover letter briefly outlining past research experience/accomplishments, career goals and expected availability date; a list of references; and a CV in a single PDF to leigh.goedeke@mssm.edu.
