As a Human-Factors Engineer with ABS you will be actively engaged in driving industry-leading research and development associated with safety engineering for broad applications serving the marine and offshore industries.

What You Will Do:

* Lead or support the ABS Technology activities and ABS Divisions and clients with interpretation and application of ABS Human Element publications.
* Maintain and update ABS Human Element publications and related Engineering and Survey Process Instructions.
* Assist in the development of new ABS publications which has a Human Element component.
* Assists with training of Engineers and Surveyors as required by the ABS Human Element publications.
* Provide internal and external awareness and training.
* Interact with clients, write reports, and give presentations to internal or external audience.
* Respond to internal and external inquiries related to ABS Human Element publications.
* Maintain and demonstrate thought leadership through technical publications and presentations.

What You Will Need:

Education and Experience

* Minimum of 2 - 5 years of experience in the human factors field or a related area
* Human Performance (capabilities/limitations, Situational Awareness, especially in a maritime environment)
* Personnel safety - accident/hazard avoidance and risk mitigation
* Safety Culture and Organization Culture (understanding opportunities for improvement and means for improvement)
* Human-Computer/Machine Interface (HCI/HMI)
* Designing for usability and maintainability (the application of ergonomics to systems)
* Autonomous/remote systems/operations

Required/Preferred Education Requirements

* Minimum requirement of a bachelor's degree or a master's degree with at least 1 - 3 years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
* Familiarity with software for verification and validation of Human Element processes (e.g., Navisworks).
* Familiarity with the ABS suite of Human Element guidance publications.
* Familiarity with the use and application of the ABS Human Element publications.
* Proficiency in the English language.
* The ability to function well in a team environment.
* Self-motivated continuous learning ability.
* Obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.

It Would Be Nice If You Had

Professional or chartered engineer license

Reporting Relationships:

This role reports to a manager and has no direct reports.

Working Conditions

Work will generally be performed in an air-conditioned office environment. Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to visit manufacturing plants, remote field sites, or go aboard marine vessels or structures. Work will be non-manual, but the incumbent must be able to walk and climb among equipment and structures. Occasionally may have to lift between 5‒15 pounds.
