  OPEN TO ENROLLED ONEIDA TRIBAL MEMBERS ONLY  
NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK: 32 HOURS PER WEEK

INTERN DUTIES/PROJECTS 
  1. The student intern will aid Trial Court Judges in various judicial and court administrative duties, projects.
  2. Observe Trial Court and Healing to Wellness Court hearings, focusing on judicial decision-making in the trial courtroom (10%).
  3. Attend Healing to Wellness staffing meetings to observe multi-disciplinary processes for providing intensive court and community supervision to help participants stay engaged in their treatment and recovery plans (10%).
  4. Work with the Healing to Wellness Coordinator/Case manager to write internal operating procedures for a specific section(s) of the Healing to Wellness Court program. (35%)
  5. Work with a Trial Court Judge to draft and/or revise a specific section of the Trial Court bench book for peacemaking and mediation, pre-trial hearing procedures and motions, and/or community service responses for children and youth (35%).
  6. Work with a Trial Court Judge to review judicial processes, research issues of law, assist with initial preparation for trials and other court proceedings (10%).
  7. Attend the Wisconsin Tribal Judges Association summer training and quarterly meeting (a one-time occurrence).
  8. Adhere to all Tribal Personnel Policies and Procedures, Tribal Standard Operating Procedures, and Area and Program Strategic Plans and Policies.
  9. The above duties and responsibilities are not an all-inclusive list but rather a general representation of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position. The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based on organizational needs and/or deemed necessary by the supervisor.

COLLEGE MAJOR
  1. Major or current enrollment in a paralegal or legal assistant certificate or associate degree program; undergraduate, master’s coursework, or successful completion of first year law school.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
  1. Must be able to move around in an office setting for meetings, customer walk-ins, operate office machines.
  2. Work is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level.
  3. A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or a 2 step TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Good communication skills – ability to demonstrate respect (listening, empathy, objectivity, courtesy), positive relationship skills with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  2. Good computer skills – proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  3. Willingness to learn basic knowledge of the Oneida Judiciary system and Oneida law.
  4. Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information.
  5. Must adhere to strict confidentiality in all matters. (Must sign a confidentiality statement prior to employment.)
  6. Must pass a pre-employment drug screening. Must adhere to the Nation’s Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy during the course of employment.
  7. Must pass a background security check with the Oneida Nation in order to meet the Employment Eligibility Requirements, Tribal/State Compact and/or Oneida Nation Gaming Ordinance as they pertain to the position. A temporary license or Gaming License issued by the Oneida Gaming Commission is required as a condition of employment and continuing employment within the Oneida Nation’s Gaming Division.
