THE POSITION

The Assistant Director of Permanent Supportive Housing (Wellness & Support Services) oversees wellness and support services across LA Family Housing's Permanent Supportive Housing sites, serving single adults, families, and veterans experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles County. This role ensures comprehensive mental health, substance use, and enrichment services for residents, while providing administrative and clinical supervision to staff, including Program Managers and Clinicians. Key duties include program management, report reviews, and ensuring contractual outcomes. This position is responsible for developing wellness and support programming and may eventually expand to include Clinical Managers for increased team capacity.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Wellness Programs Management:

  • Acts as a secondary contact for all Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) wellness programs, including those funded by public entities such as LA County Department of Health Services (DHS), Department of Mental Health (DMH), and private grants.
  • Designs and executes wellness and support initiatives for PSH buildings, monitoring program success and attendance.

Clinical Services Coordination:

  • Manages clinical service collaboration with external agencies, partners, and funders, including referral coordination.
  • Provides training on mental health, substance use, safety assessments, discharge planning, and care coordination for PSH staff.

Team Collaboration and Event Coordination:

  • Works with the DevCo team to facilitate volunteer events across all buildings and ensure event calendars are shared.
  • Leads regular meetings with Assistant Directors of PSH, departmental managers, funding agency program managers, and property managers for case conferencing and service coordination.

Crisis Intervention and Support:

  • Offers crisis intervention case consultations for staff as needed.
  • Participates in the on-call rotation for after-hours resident advocate support.

Quality Assurance and Data Management:

  • Collaborates with the Quality Assurance team for staff training, orientation, and audit readiness for clinical and mental health contracts.
  • Ensures efficient tracking of services, accurate data collection in systems like HMIS and CHAMP, consistent program file reviews, and completion of all necessary reporting as per contract requirements.

Staff Management:

  • Assists in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating direct service staff.
  • Helps onboard MHS/SUDS/EC new hires, focusing on assessment, documentation, linkage, and safety protocols.
  • Supervises MSW interns as a Preceptor or Field Instructor as needed.
  • Communicates company goals, safety practices, and deadlines to the team.
  • Promotes adherence to company regulations and performance targets among team members.
  • Motivates and provides ongoing supervision and feedback to the team.
  • Conducts timely performance evaluations and submits them to HR.
  • Coaches and develops direct supervisees and assesses their performance.
  • Manages work schedules and reviews and approves timesheets.
  • Ensures staff attend and complete required training.
  • Consults with HR on employee relations and staff performance issues.

Other:

  • Attends regular staff and agency meetings.
  • Takes on additional tasks, projects, and responsibilities as assigned but supervisor.
  • Works a 9/80 schedule and is available on-call 24/7 for crisis intervention and other PSH building issues.

WHAT YOU'RE SKILLED AT:

  • Committed to ending homelessness with knowledge of best practices (motivational interviewing, Housing First, harm reduction, trauma-informed care).
  • Strong clinical judgment for mental health crisis resolution.
  • Independent decision-making and leadership, with strong communication skills.
  • Familiar with the Coordinated Entry System (CES) and its goal of achieving "functional zero."
  • Knowledge of HACLA/HACoLA voucher systems.
  • Experience in social service/non-profit management; able to work independently.
  • Expertise in homelessness issues (medically fragile adults, substance use, mental health, domestic violence).
  • Detail-oriented and adept at managing program requirements.
  • Collaborates effectively with other leaders to achieve program goals.
  • Adapts to dynamic work environments.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills desirable.

OTHER:

  • Maintain and execute confidential information according to HIPAA standards
  • Must have and maintain a valid California Driver's License and insurance
  • Travel is a regular duty for this position and is required 30% of the time
  • Use of a personal vehicle to travel between worksites and other locations is required
  • Flexibility to work weekends, as needed
  • Obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Ability to pass post-offer Tuberculosis (TB) clearance

WHAT YOU'VE ACCOMPLISHED:

  • A master's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field is required. Must obtain an LCSW/LMFT license within six months of hire.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of social service experience.
  • At least two (2) years of management and supervisory experience in social services.
  • Prior work in a homeless service environment is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and CHAMP highly desired.
