Outpatient Clinical Counselor

Medix is looking for a dedicated CASAC Counselor for a position in outpatient clinics located in the Bronx and Lower Manhattan area. This position will be focused on counseling and aiding those who have substance abuse disorders by utilizing a person-centered and trauma informed lens.

What you'll do:
  • Offer trauma-informed individual therapy and group counseling for adolescents and adults diagnosed with substance use disorders.
  • Provide family counseling and services for significant others.
  • Collaborate with referral sources, ensuring consistent updates and progress reports on clients.
  • Work alongside a multidisciplinary team to assess diagnoses, develop treatment plans, implement evidence-based interventions, offer clinical expertise, and provide team-based support for clinical operations.

What's your day to day like:
  • Maintain ongoing Shelter site referrals with Provider Site staff.
  • Provide Low-Threshold Clinical Services weekly using evidence-based curriculums.
  • Respond to PCO Directors' directives on clinical oversight, documentation, and scheduling.
  • Conduct Intakes as directed by the Director of Admissions and Dept. Staff.
  • Build relationships with Shelter Administration, Case Managers, and staff.
  • Maintain a client census of 10-15 with a max of 25, forming unique client relationships.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Peer Services.
  • Enhance positive client shelter experiences.
  • Demonstrate strong independent work with creativity and client engagement.
  • Report directly to the Manager of Ambulatory Services.

What are the requirements:
  • Master's Degree in mental health discipline, licensed in New York or eligible for licensure.
  • CASAC 1 or CASAC 2 with bachelor's degree, or LMSW with 2 years of SUD experience.
  • Experience with substance-abusing clients.
  • Strong multitasking and professionalism.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Team player with organizational and computer skills.
  • Work with diverse clients and staff professionally and empathetically.
  • Familiarity with Regulatory Agency/OASAS Regulations.
  • Understanding of group dynamics.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Bilingualism is a plus.
  • Self-motivated.
