With supervision and support, peer counselors will provide substance use disorder (SUD) education through talking about their own experiences, answering questions, and facilitating conversations. They will work with all types of clinical staff including prescribers, nurses, SWs, Counselors, other Peers within the emergency department, inpatient, outpatient, and specialized settings. Works in close collaboration with clinic staff and Central Office SUD education teams. Empowers peers to advocate for themselves, resolve issues or problems and plan for their futures by serving as a role model.

**General tasks and responsibilities will include**:

- Assists the social workers and addiction counselor educators with education activities which can include creation of education material, giving talks (with support), role playing, and simulation.
- Leads or co-leads groups to decrease stigma and help staff understand how addiction is felt as an individual and as an interaction with the health care system
- Educate (with support and assistance) other peers as to evidence and knowledge around importance of gold standard care for patients.
- Uses personal experience as a recipient of behavioral health services (including co-occurring/substance use background) in role-modeling recovery and providing hope for other recipients.
- Provide Narcan training and opioid overdose education
- Participates in an interdisciplinary treatment and human services teams
- Helps develop material that is clear and person centered
- Acts as a liaison with community and governmental agencies.
- Facilitates the establishment of peer support networks, natural and social support systems.
- Maintains current, complete and appropriate documentation in the consumer record, prepares required forms, and may be required to use computer systems in carrying out these functions. Documents in Electronic Health Record (EHR) and writes progress notes for review
- All other duties, as needed

**Minimum Qualifications**:

- A High school diploma or its educational equivalent; and
- Certification as a Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) issued by the New York Certification Board.
- Three (3) Years of full-time satisfactory experience working with consumers of mental health services as a peer counselor

Pay: $50,557.00 - $53,000.00 per year
