Job Summary:

MedStar Health is looking for a Surgical Technologist I to join our team We are looking for a Surgical Technologist with demonstrated competency in case procedure, preparation, and completion of all services.

The Surgical Technologist I will perform a variety of technical duties to assist with surgery, to include case preparation, ensuring proper function of equipment, assisting during operative procedures, and more.

Primary Duties:

  • Functions as surgical assistant during operative procedures performing specified activities under the direct supervision of the surgeon. May act as second assistant by providing exposure and holding retractors. Anticipates sequential needs of the surgeon during the operative procedure.
  • Assists with case preparation, following preference card guidelines.
  • Identifies and handles specimens appropriately. Maintains aseptic techniques; actively monitors situations that could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
  • May function as a technical resource person for OR staff providing information relating to instruments and equipment. Ensures that equipment is functioning properly and immediately notifies appropriate personnel of any problems.

  • Performs indirect patient care activities such as patient transportation as needed. Provides comfort and support for preoperative patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient's care and privacy. Responds to questions from patients, families, and significant others in a prompt, courteous, positive, and knowledgeable manner and/or refers to appropriate personnel.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Graduation from a school of surgical technology or completion of hospital-based training.

  • Experience as a surgical technologist or graduation from a school of surgical technology program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
