Overview

Reporting to the Director of the Gender + Sexuality Resource Center, the Associate Director assists with setting the direction, goals, and strategic initiatives of the Gender + Sexuality Resource Center at Princeton University. The Associate Director serves as a resource for all members of the University community on issues of gender and sexuality, and works collaboratively with GSRC staff to support the mission and function of the Center. The Associate Director provides extensive programming, outreach and education on campus, while also providing one-on-one and group support for students. The Associate Director oversees the curriculum and resource development for trainings (i.e., trans inclusive practices, LGBTQIA+ identities and terminologies, feminism/womanism, gender equity, masculinity/patriarchy, intersectionality, etc.), serves as the lead facilitator for the GSRC, and leads its peer education initiatives (e.g., Gender and Sexuality Peer Education Program, etc.); takes the lead on conference coordination (both GSRC sponsored conferences and student travel to regional and national conferences); oversees the Oral History Project; and manages GSRC assessment efforts. The Associate Director also supervises the GSRC program coordinators to ensure that GSRC programs are strategically aligned with the mission and vision of the GSRC; oversees assessment and evaluation of all GSRC programs managed by the program coordinators; and ensures the standard operating procedures of the physical GSRC are being leveraged to meet the needs of trans, queer, women, and femme students at Princeton University. This role also assists with the larger supervision strategy for student employees including recruitment and assisting with performance evaluations. The Associate Director contributes to the overall mission and efforts of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion-Campus Life.

Responsibilities

The AD coordinates the gender and sexuality training program within the GSRC, including leading the Peer Education Program (i.e., recruitment, training, ensuring the facilitation of educational panels in the residential colleges, outreach programs, and tailored workshops, etc.); assesses and evaluates peer education initiatives; reconceptualizes and redesigns peer education; designs curriculum and scaffolded trainings; facilitates trainings for students, staff and faculty; builds relationships with key faculty and staff to ensure that there are training opportunities for those groups that align with their needs; serves as the point of contact for GSRC training and development initiatives; and provides extensive outreach and education on campus (this outreach work also includes targeted community support/community-building for women/femme students and LGBTQIA+ communities, including but not limited to the trans community, asexual students, intersex students and questioning students)

The AD leads conference coordination. This includes all of the organization for taking students to regional and national conferences, including recruiting students, booking travel, and setting expectations. The AD also coordinates conferences at Princeton that focus on LGBTQIA+ and women/femme research/identities/lived experiences. This includes setting up conference committees, creating a call for proposals, working with interns to develop publicity and program materials, setting up panels, negotiating with vendors/agents regarding contracts, and staying on top of all details for each event.

Manages the Oral History Project and, in partnership with director, manages the alumni database. This includes supervising OHP interns and (potential) graduate interns; scheduling summer interviews with alumni and Princeton University community members; working with Mudd Library to maintain the archive; and designing, implementing, and maintaining the digital archive which showcases the legacy of Trans and Queer inclusion at Princeton. The AD works to recruit participants for the OHP and manages a growing alumni database to support these projects.

The AD supervises the GSRC program coordinators to ensure that GSRC programs are strategically aligned with the mission and vision of the GSRC; and oversees assessment and evaluation of all GSRC programs managed by the program coordinators. The AD also supervises Summer Interns.

Meets with students one-on-one and in groups to offer support (themes include: identity exploration, coming out, transitioning, family, relationships, discrimination, and mental health topics) Maintains regular relationships with individual students and student groups to understand campus climate; Collaborates with key office partners (i.e., Carl A. Fields Center, SHARE Office, University Health Services [UHS}, Office of Disability Services, Office of the Dean for Undergraduate Students, ODOC, Human Resources {Ally Project}, McGraw Center, etc.) to maintain programmatic and campus relationships; Serves on committees to provide input about the experiences of LGBTQIA+ and women/femme students; Stays up to date on literature, language shifts, and best practices around supporting LGBTQIA+ and women/femme students; Contributes to the overall mission of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion through supporting training and orientation initiatives.

Qualifications

Essential qualifications

* Professional experience working in social justice education, including experience in the areas of gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, nationality, class, disability, religion, etc.
* Three to five years relevant experience developing programs and facilitating training on a wide range of diversity and inclusion topics, concepts, and social constructs, etc.
* Three to five years of experience with outcomes assessment/evaluation
* Three to five years of experience in curriculum/content development
* Extensive knowledge of D&I topics (specifically gender and sexuality), including current research, national trends in higher education and theoretical models
* Knowledge of womxn/femme/gender identity and LGBTQIA+ issues of concern related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual and the intersection of other identities
* Ability to customize training, read one's audience, and adapt creatively to the needs of a diverse group of students
* Comfortable with conflict and able to manage difficult conversations in training and workshop settings
* Experience with online outreach, managing social media accounts, and event promotion.
* Must be up-to-date on important topics in the field of gender and sexuality (primarily the student experience) and have a clear understanding of experiences of marginalized genders and sexualities
* Ability to work as a contributing member in a team-oriented environment with an understanding of the larger unit and University contexts. This includes being part of an office team as well as collaborating with colleagues and non-University partners
