Overview

The Princeton Neuroscience Institute has an Instrumentation Specialist position available in the Bezos Center for Neural Circuit Dynamics, a state-of-the-art facility used by researchers to measure and perturb population level neural activity during behavior.

The successful candidate's primary responsibility will be to provide technical support for custom optical instrumentation used within the Bezos center and associated laboratories. This instrumentation is used for large scale optical recording of neuronal populations and optogenetic perturbation studies.

After proper training, the successful candidate will also be expected to instruct and assist researchers in the use of several commercial instruments used in anatomical studies of neural tissue (confocal microscope, light sheet microscopes, slide scanner).

The instrumentation specialist will work with Bezos Center management and faculty to develop and support the imaging tools and peripheral instrumentation.

This is initially a one-year position with the possibility of renewal, based on satisfactory performance. A commitment of at least two years is preferred.

Responsibilities

Specific duties include the implementation, and maintenance of:• Custom two-photon, and three-photon, microscopes for cellular resolution calcium imaging of neural populations.• Custom wide field fluorescence microscopes for macroscopic imaging of neural dynamics across brain regions.• State of the art systems for combined imaging and optogenetic perturbation at cellular resolution.

Other duties will require the Instumentation Specialist to:• Perform quality control checks on all microscopes. Develop and maintain accurate records to monitor instrument performance. In concert with the Imaging Director, complete scheduled and unscheduled system maintenance as needed.• Perform routine laboratory duties including ordering of lab supplies, general lab upkeep, routine maintenance of laboratory equipment. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, Physics, Electrical Engineering or related science or engineering field is required.- Previous experience in optics and/or imaging is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Master's or PhD degree is preferred- Experience in optical design, mechanical design, instrumentation, and electronics are a plus.
