Reporting to the VP of Ambulatory Operations & the Chair of Surgery, responsible for providing Surgical and Hyperbaric services at South Shore Hospital, and the SSMC Wound Care Center. The Surgical Director for the Wound Center will provide leadership, organization and direction for team culture.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Administrative Reporting and Responsibilities:

* The Surgical Director of the Wound Center reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Surgery of South Shore Health (who reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer) and to the Vice President of Ambulatory Services Division of South Shore Health system who, in turn reports to the EVP/COO regarding all aspects of care within the department.
* Works in concert with members of Leadership to coordinate and implement short and long-term goals for the specialty, ensuring that they are in concert with the goals of the health system.
* As applicable, maintains program accreditation ensuring that the service meets or exceeds local and national standards of outcome performances.
* Mentors colleagues, including developing and implementing objectives for provider career development.
* Ensures each member of the specialty receives an annual performance evaluation.
* Ensures that providers are compliant with guidelines for credentialing, clinical documentation, HIPAA and all other relevant regulatory guidelines.
* Attends all necessary leadership meetings
* Embraces and furthers the engagement and coordination of nursing, APCs and other providers in the Wound Center.
* Provides leadership, organization and direction for shaping team culture with strong emphasis on provider well-being and the practice environment.
* Leads continued growth of the department through recruitment and integration of new providers.

Clinical Responsibilities:

* Collaborates with the Hospital and Medical Center in the development and execution of clinical programs and high quality patient care.
* Develops priorities for growth of clinical programs to meet patient needs, enhance quality of care and implements innovative care. The clinical care should support efficiency, volume and excellent service to patients.
* Provides supervision of surgical services provided in the Wound Center and ensure appropriateness, quality and safety of patient care within the scope of the specialty
* Mentors advanced practice clinicians
* Actively manages providers to facilitate their achieving their annual clinical productivity targets.
* Formally reports on matters relevant to the quality of the care provided in the Wound Center which occurs through formal scheduled cross functional team meetings.
* Establishes, tracks and develops continuous improvement strategies for clinical quality and access goals. These include but are not limited to: HEDIS and insurance product performance measures, admission and readmission rates, infection rates and CG-CAHPS.
* Reviews patient satisfaction reports for the department and addresses areas for improvement with specific action plans.

Operational Responsibilities:

* Leads efforts to standardize workflows to enhance the efficiency of the practice for the providers, staff and patients.
* Endorses and leads department wide practice improvement initiatives along with operations and nursing.
* Establishes protocols and best practices for the patient population working collaboratively with other departments' clinical and operational leaders - including the Chief of Podiatry, the Medical Director of the Wound Center, the Wound Center's nursing leadership and the Operations Manager.
* Sets agenda and runs department meetings (monthly) with all providers and operations and nursing leaders in consultation with the nursing and operations leaders.
* Ensures adequate department coverage at all times, managing vacation and schedule conflicts.
* Ensures that all clinical providers within the department are meeting the clinical and operational standards set forth by SSH and the Vice President.
* Ensures effective and efficient operations of the specialty to include ongoing improvement to patient experiences and patient outcomes.
* Adjusts expenditures and staffing to address changes in resources.
* Oversees the effective utilization of specialty space.
* Collaborates on the financial status of the Specialty, including participating in the annual budget development with medical center leadership, monitoring adherence to budget in all areas.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education - Required

Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or School of Osteopathy

Minimum Work Experience

* Minimum 5 to 7 years surgical experience as well as administrative/management experience is required preferably in both an ambulatory and hospital setting.
* Continues to practice in his or her field of expertise
* Be seen as a highly regarded and well-respected clinician
* Supervisory experience preferred



Required Licenses/Registrations

MD/DO degrees; having successfully completed a residency in Surgery; possesses a Massachusetts license as a physician.

Certified as a Hyperbaric Chamber Oxygen (HBO) provider by the American College of Hyperbaric Medicine

This position is a licensed independent practitioner credentialed through the Medical Staff Services Office
