Position Summary: Responsible for the safety of assigned unit environment & patient population by conducting visual observations of patients, monitoring V/S and reporting abnormalities to RN STAT, per physicians orders to include appropriate documentation. Performs and documents searches & belongings inventories according to policy. Conducts educational group therapy sessions with the supervision of a counselor or registered nurse.

Qualifications

* Reading and numerical competency
* 2 year college (Behavioral Science or Nursing) or Emergency Medical Technician preferred
* Prefer 1 yr in a JCAHO accredited hospital on a psychiatric or chemical dependency unit as a psychiatric aide, mental health worker or technician
* BLS (Basic Life Support) Healthcare Provider course according to RQI program guidelines must be completed during new hire orientation prior to working in a clinical setting. LMS assigned First Aide due within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter. Handle with Care required with new hire orientation.
* Must be able to identify and address the special needs for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and communicate with the patient
* Ability to work as member of an interdisciplinary team
* Able to work with patients at all levels of functional ability and from diverse backgrounds
