Job Description

The Director of Facilities & Campus Projects will be responsible for planning, program management, and implementation of best practices for all aspects of campus facilities, maintenance, and construction. This position will also be responsible for planning and communicating effectively to ensure that projects are properly authorized and sufficiently funded, environmentally sound, and completed in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The Director of Facilities & Campus Projects will report to the Vice President of Finance and Administration. The Director of Facilities & Campus Projects serves on the Finance and Administration leadership team and is accountable for planning, implementation, and operation of all campus building assets.

Overseeing this unit comprised of: physical plant, capital planning, design & construction, and risk management. The Director of Facilities & Campus Projects will evaluate how efficiencies can be created to generate the capital projects that will be needed to realize the imperatives described in the most recent university strategic plan, The Second Century at McMurry University 2023.

Essential Duties Summary

The Director of Facilities & Campus Projects will be expected to:
• Provide strategic direction to the areas under his/her supervision to include campus maintenance staff and external vendors.
• Lead change, manage resources, and streamline processes and systems in the unit;
• Provide day-to-day management of efficient operations including maintenance of campus equipment inventory;
• Responsible for hiring, training, and managing a staff of 7 maintenance technicians and one administrative staff;
• Achieve facilities-related goals that align with McMurry University's current strategic plan and academic mission;
• Oversee design, construction, and renovation projects;
• Ensure environmental and OSHA compliance, including oversight of safety audits;
• Develop and implement an effective energy conservation program to meet consumption reduction goals.
• Become familiar with Risk Management University modules and implement these modules across the university on a regular basis.
• Serve as liaison with architects, engineers, other consultants, general contractors and subcontractors to mitigate issues related to design/construction.

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Business or related field or extensive work experience in lieu of a degree. Previous supervisory experience in a related work environment is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Demonstrated ability in construction project management including new construction and renovation/remodeling projects.
• Advanced knowledge of construction safety best practices.
• Knowledge of zoning and building codes and regulations.
• Ability to ensure compliance with relevant federal, state and university regulations, policies and procedures.
• Ability to establish priorities and follow through on projects playing close attention to detail and to complete assignments under time constraints and budget requirements.
• Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, organizational, estimating, analytical, and leadership skills.
• Ability to interact professionally with all constituents in the university including students, parents, faculty and staff, as well as persons outside the university.

Minimum Required Education
Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications

A Master's degree in Business, Construction Management or related field. Previous experience in facility management for a college or university.

Physical Demands

This position is may be very active and require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing during the day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.
