Membership Sales Manager Job Description

Summary

Responsible for overseeing and driving the sales efforts for gym memberships. This role involves managing the sales team, developing strategies to acquire new members, ensuring member retention, and achieving revenue targets.

  1. Full-time, 40 hours a week, or more as needed
  2. Schedule:
    1. Varied to monitor gym staff performance as needed
      1. Gyms open from 5AM to 12AM
      2. May require evening and weekend hours depending on business needs

Preferred Education
  1. Bachelor's degree in exercise science, health & human performance, or sports science or other related field and/or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

Essential Job Duties
  1. Grows the gym's membership base and ensures long-term success through excellent customer relationships and strategic sales efforts.
  2. Train and manage a team of strong sales professionals.
  3. Develop strategies to acquire new members, ensure member retention and achieve revenue targets.

Additional Job Duties
  1. Sales Strategy & Management:
    1. Develop and execute strategies to meet or exceed membership sales targets. Lead the sales team in achieving revenue goals by creating promotional offers, special deals, and outreach programs.
  1. Team Leadership & Training:
    1. Manage, train, and motivate the sales team to consistently perform at their best. Provide coaching on sales techniques, customer service, and product knowledge to improve team performance.
  1. Lead Generation & Conversion:
    1. Oversee lead generation efforts, including outreach, follow-ups, and managing inbound inquiries. Convert leads into membership sign-ups through personalized sales strategies and presentations.
  1. Customer Relationship Management:
    1. Build strong relationships with prospective and current members. Address member concerns, resolve issues, and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  1. Market Research & Analysis:
    1. Conduct market research to identify trends, competitor offerings, and opportunities for growth. Use data-driven insights to refine sales strategies and improve the gym's market position.
  1. Reporting & Performance Tracking:
    1. Regularly track and report on sales progress, team performance, and key metrics. Provide regular updates to management on sales trends, conversion rates, and any obstacles faced.
  1. Member Retention & Upselling:
    1. Work closely with the other departments to identify opportunities for upselling additional services such as personal training, group classes, or merchandise. Implement strategies to retain members and reduce churn.
  1. Promotional & Marketing Support:
    1. Collaborate with marketing teams to create promotional campaigns, special events, and seasonal offers to boost membership sales. Assist in the development of marketing collateral and online presence.
  1. Other job duties as assigned by manager.

Required Skills / Experience
  1. Proven experience in sales management, preferably in the fitness or health industry.
  2. Strong leadership and team management skills.
  3. Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  4. Goal-oriented with the ability to meet and exceed sales targets.
  5. In-depth understanding of gym memberships, fitness services, and customer needs.
  6. Proficiency in CRM software and sales tracking tools.
  7. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle customer objections.

Preferred Skills / Experience
  1. Experience with fitness equipment sales or wellness programs.
  2. Background in fitness or personal training.
  3. Knowledge of social media marketing and digital lead generation.
