Job Title: Patient Care Technician Job Specialty: Supportive Nursing Care Job Duration: Ongoing Shift: Days, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., 8x5 Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week, every other weekend, every other holiday Experience: CAN preferred License: Not specified Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: Ability to work collaboratively in a healthcare environment Job Description: - Assist with patient transport and transfer within the department and hospital.- Administer oxygen via nasal cannula, non-rebreather masks, and bag valve masks.- Apply non-invasive blood pressure, ECG electrodes, pulse oximetry, and end-tidal CO2 for central monitoring of patients.- Respond to patient call lights and/or family requests and refer appropriately.- Assure the safety of the patient population served by demonstrating age-appropriate skills when assisting with nursing care activities as directed by licensed nursing personnel.- Perform duties generally supportive of the activities of daily living for patients, which do not require nursing assessment skills during their performance.- Perform unit-related tasks as assigned by the Nurse Director or designee.- Attend appropriate in-service and educational programs commensurate with job responsibilities.- Float to various units as requested.- Accept assignments under the direction of the Charge RN or designee.- Immediately report changes in patient condition to the primary care RN.- Complete assignments and demonstrate the ability to adapt to changes in workload.- Accurately obtain, document, and report vital signs and recheck as needed. Report abnormal findings to the primary RN or Charge RN.- Accurately measure and document intake and output as needed.- Perform capillary blood glucose testing using proper techniques and equipment, document results, and report abnormal results to the RN.- Perform ECGs.- Maintain and support patients' rights to care, privacy, and respect.- Participate in unit/hospital projects that seek to improve patient care.- Perform other duties as assigned from time to time.
