Qualifications

High school diploma or GED

Maintains and possess CFC certification

Five (5) years of experience, apprenticeship, training, and/or vocational training in HVAC field

Experience in commercial and domestic refrigeration

Knowledge of microcomputers and building automation systems

Experience in the maintenance and repair of (1) to (150) ton A/C equipment and chillers including diagnosing of electrical and refrigerant gas circuitry malfunctions, gas fired and electrical strip heaters, boilers including diagnosing of control circuitry

Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in this trade

Ability to climb and work from ladders, stairs, and scaffolding

Ability to perform HVAC work and care for tools, materials and equipment safely

Ability to make rough sketches, read blueprints, and work from specifications

Ability to estimate materials and labor costs for minor HVAC jobs

Ability to analyze emergency situations accurately and take prompt action

Ability to keep simple records and make reports

Ability to instruct and lead helpers

Ability to read and write and make accurate arithmetic computations

Valid driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle record

Possess the temperament to work with and around employees and/or children

Grasp, lift, maneuver, carry, push, pull, move, and set down (50-80 lbs.) objects on a daily basis safely

Specific Job Duties

(1) Performs assigned routine HVAC preventive maintenance

(2) Handles HVAC repairs according to work orders issued by designated supervisor

(3) Troubleshooting control systems and maintain electrical systems on HVAC equipment

(4) Perform weekly and annual water treatment tests on HVAC water towers and closed water loops and make necessary adjustments

(5) Service and maintain: chillers, commercial & residential HVAC equip., window units and electric heat, heat pumps, boilers, chill and hot water pumps, water filtration systems, water make up systems, fan coil units, domestic refrigerator/freezers, drinking water coolers, plumbing-concerning chill and hot water lines and A/C filters

(6) Service and maintain cafeteria equipment: walk in freezers and coolers, reach in freezers and coolers, serving line equipment, milk coolers, and kitchen hood equipment

(7) Work co-operatively and effectively with other departments: plumbing, cafeteria, carpentry, electrical, and mechanic/welding

(8) Makes rough estimates on materials needed for minor installations and repairs

(9) Advises on the selection, ordering, and storage of HVAC supplies, materials, and equipment

(10) Complete work orders properly and return to supervisor

(11) Assumes responsibility of directing and/or guiding helper to perform his job correctly and safely for all parties

(12) Assumes responsibility of being driver of assigned service vehicle with routine required maintenance performed and to keep records of such maintenance

(13) Performs all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or by Superintendent

(8) Participates in professional activities on a local, state, and national level in assigned areas (include for appropriate personnel)

(1) Understands and interprets written and verbal instructions from immediate supervisor and gives clear written and oral instructions to others as required

(2) Accurately compiles data, summarizes information and provides written reports when required

(3) Answers the telephone and receives visitors in a courteous and efficient manner

(4) Follows the chain of command for various administrative procedures

Attendance and Punctuality

(1) Reports to work at the assigned time

(2) Attends work consistently

(3) Contacts Supervisor when absent

(4) Scans in or out using the employee scan system as appropriate

Safety

(1) Completes task in a safe manner as prescribed by the Safety Department or by the employee's profession/craft

(2) Maintains a neat and orderly work environment

(3) Dresses appropriately for the job assigned and in compliance with state law and board policy GAMB Employee Dress Code

(4) Displays employee ID tag at all times while on duty

(5) Reports any unsafe conditions or any incidents of injury or damage immediately to the appropriate official

(6) Complies with policies GAMA Employee Tobacco Use and GAMD Drug-Free Workplace when on duty

Terms of Employment

8 hours per day - 12 months (240 days)

There shall be a probationary period of 90 days from date of employment for new employees. After 90 days, a decision based upon an evaluation will be rendered in regards to the employee's status as a permanent employee.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of non-instructional personnel

The Superintendent reserves the right to change the job and any other duties, as required, with advance written notification.

* $44,312.50 / Per Year is contingent on possessing a Masters degree at 30 years of employment.
