Position Overview

The assistant football coach is responsible for assisting the head football coach in running an NCAA Division I (FCS) football program by recruiting academically qualified prospective students-athletes, developing and implementing training sessions, practices and game plans, educating and coaching student-athletes, and supporting student-athletes in their personal, academic and athletic development at Merrimack College. This full-time position reports directly to the head football coach and must act in accordance with NCAA Division I (FCS), Merrimack's Athletic Member Conference(s) and Merrimack College rules, regulations and policies.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Assist in running the offensive side of the program at the direction of the head football coach.
* Participate in the recruitment of high-quality student-athletes, including managing a recruiting area and involvement in on-campus visits.
* Participate in the development of student-athletes, personally, academically and athletically.
* Assist in coaching a position group; help plan and run training sessions and practices.
* Scout opposing teams and assist in the breakdown of video for teaching purposes and game planning.
* Attend coach and student-athlete meetings.
* Help monitor the academic progress of student-athletes.
* Represent the program with the highest level of professionalism, sportsmanship and integrity.
* Help foster and maintain a culture that demonstrates a commitment to NCAA rules compliance and institutional policies.
* Help foster and maintain a culture that demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as well as trust and mutual respect.
* Participate in departmental activities including staff meetings, compliance education, diversity, equity and inclusion training, guest speakers and other events/meetings.
* Fulfill other specific areas of responsibility related to the program as assigned by the head football coach

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
* 1-2 years of previous playing and/or coaching experience
* Ability to work non-traditional hours and a flexible schedule
* Knowledge of NCAA rules and intercollegiate athletics
* Demonstrated recruiting skills and knowledge
* Knowledge of video editing and production
* Commitment to supporting the academic success and overall well-being of student-athletes
* Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
* Excellent organizational skills including the ability to prioritize and complete tasks by established deadlines

Vaccinations and Work Location

This is an on-campus position as employees are essential in order to provide a fully on-campus, residential college experience for our students and the community.
