Job Description

Job Title: HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT COACH

Reports To: Athletic Director

Evaluated By: Athletic Director and High School Principal

JOB GOAL:
  1. Help each participating student to achieve a high level of skill and knowledge of the sport.
  2. Instill in the participants an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship.
  3. Develop a positive working relationship with students, staff, administration, parents and community.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed for the position.
  1. Possess a valid First Aid Card
  2. Completion of an annual Bloodborn Pathogen course.
  3. Be NFHS certified.
  4. Possesses a high level of competence, which may include prior participation in the sport, prior coaching experience, and completion of courses and /or clinics sufficient to provide the knowledge and skill to meet the performance responsibilities described below.
  5. Has experience teaching, working with, and/or coaching students of high school age.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Encourage good sportsmanship, fair play, ethical conduct, good scholarship and desirable pupil-teacher relationships.
  2. Plan for and conduct, or assists in organized practice sessions which actively involve all participants in conditioning, skill development and play practice.
  1. Assist in the development of lines of communications with parents, students, teachers, administrators and the community.
  1. Teach students the skills and strategies necessary to participate in the sport.
  1. Teach the drills and exercises needed for developing strength, stamina and speed in the sport.
  1. Assist in the supervision of participants wherever they are present, including the locker room, playing/practice area and on district-provided transportation.
  1. Assist with the proper care, maintenance and security of facilities, equipment and supplies.
  1. Take all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the participants.
  1. Adhere to the school and district regulations and policies regarding the conduct of coaches and student eligibility in sports. Conduct grade checks upon the request of the Athletic Director.
  1. Assist in making sure that a student is eligible for initial participation in the sport before they issuance of equipment or participation in practice.
  1. Ensure the collection and the safe storage of uniforms and equipment at seasons end.
  1. Assist in keeping a record of all injuries and reports information to the Athletic Director's office and the Office of the Principal if an athlete may require medical attention.
  1. Work constructively with colleagues and others for the purpose of improving the quality of an athlete's behavior and academic success.
  1. Assist in all fundraising activities related to his/her sport.
  1. Assist in the development of the Team Handbook.
  1. Enforce the expectations for student athletes as expressed in the Neah-Kah-Nie High School Student Handbook.
  1. Adhere to policies and procedures as expressed in the Neah-Kah-Nie High School Coaches Handbook.
  1. Perform such other tasks as may be assigned by the Board or administration.


ADDITIONAL CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, BONDING, AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED:

* Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance

* Valid First Aid Card

* NFHS Coaches Training

* Bloodborne Pathogen Training

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/field of vision.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

A one-year contract renewed at the discretion of the Board of Directors. Salary to be according to the current salary schedule and extra-duty schedule agreed upon in the Certified Collective Bargaining Agreement.

EVALUATION:

The performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Athletic Director.
