Job Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides competent and compassionate nursing care to patients and families under the direct guidance and supervision of a physician and Nurse Manager. The LPN collaborates with physicians and other staff to ensure a quality-based, customer-oriented workflow throughout the ambulatory practice while serving as a resource for clinical and clerical support staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide physical care and emotional support to patients and families under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and Medical Director.
  • Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care and treatment plans.
  • Observe, report, and record pertinent patient information into the electronic health record system in accordance with Dermatology Service protocols.
  • Support and reinforce patient teaching plans, educating patients about proper medication use and wound care.
  • Administer medications and perform nursing procedures within defined parameters after successful orientation.
  • Photograph patients with various skin conditions using appropriate photographic techniques and equipment.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance activities and support peers in maintaining established standards of care.
  • Triaging patient urgent clinical calls and scheduling patient and Telehealth appointments as needed.
  • Inform patients of pathology, lab results, and care plans.
  • Monitor all biopsies via In-Basket messages to ensure timely administration of therapies.
  • Provide clinical nursing coverage across Medical Dermatology specialty services.
  • Obtain prior authorizations for medications as needed.
  • Participate in developing and implementing innovative nursing practices.
  • Ensure appropriate use of equipment and supplies, maintaining inventories.
  • Provide input to the Nurse Manager regarding perceived unit needs.
  • Participate in unit and service committees to improve practice.
  • Maintain a safe physical environment and comply with fire and safety regulations.
  • Troubleshoot routine and non-routine problems effectively.

Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required:
  1. Maintain and update clinical knowledge and skills through continuing education.
  2. Attend Nurses Association meetings.
  3. Dedication to the highest patient care and service excellence.
  4. Ability to take initiative and exercise independent judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving.
  5. A collaborative, team-oriented attitude with the ability to work independently.
  6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with flexibility to handle multiple tasks.
  7. Competence in administering injections.


Required Qualifications:
  1. Current state licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  2. BLS certification.

Education:

  1. Graduate of an approved LPN program.

Experience:

  1. Minimum of 1 year of LPN experience.
  2. Familiarity with EMR systems, specifically PointClick Care.
