Payroll Director

Essential Functions:
Accountable for end-to end payroll process from time entry, processing, settlement, direct deposit, check print, garnishment processing and payroll tax.
Performs payroll cycle variance analysis for each EIN and reports outliers to field management as necessary for resolution.
Establishes the operational direction across the payroll team, processes and functions.
Ensures policies, procedures and processes are documented and followed to maintain the integrity of operational and financial controls.
Defines metrics to monitor performance and identify areas of improvement for the payroll function.
Implements process improvements that increase efficiency and accuracy.
Liaison to internal stakeholders (Finance, Accounting, Legal, IT and Human Resources) and external partners (auditors, agencies, third party providers) on payroll matters.
Ensures compliance with data privacy regulations and best practices. Maintains strict confidentiality to protect employee data privacy.
Ensures compliance with payroll laws and regulations at the state and federal level. Subject matter expert for company on payroll regulations for all locations.
Completes research on payroll related issues responds to and resolves payroll problems assists management with decisions related to payroll and effectively communicates payroll related changes and updates.
Manages year-end closing process including W-2 statements and year-end reporting.
Supervises payroll staff including discipline monitoring and completing performance reviews. Provides training and orientation as needed.
Leads payroll integrations and system upgrades.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Educational / Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
Five to seven years of experience in payroll processing. Advanced knowledge of payroll practices, processes, garnishment, payroll tax and regulatory requirements.
Experience in leading teams and managing others.
Experience using Paycom required. ADP and Workday preferred.
Experience in the healthcare industry preferred.
Qualifications / Skills:
Ability to read, write and follow written and oral instructions.
Demonstrated ability to lead a team, manage multiple locations, and achieve operational goals.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Work Environment:
Subject to many interruptions. Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. This position can be high paced and stressful; must be able to cope mentally and physically to the atmosphere. Work requires spending approximately 90% or more of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
