A local construction firm is seeking an expererienced controller to join their growing team. To be considered, the candidate must have multifamily project experience.

Position Overview:

The Construction Controller will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management within the company, with a specific focus on managing construction-related accounting activities. This role will involve close collaboration with project managers, superintendents, and executive leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance. The ideal candidate has experience in the construction industry and a deep understanding of project-based accounting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Oversight: Manage all financial operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash flow management.
  • Project Accounting: Track and analyze job costs, ensuring alignment with project budgets, and monitor progress billing, change orders, and retainage.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Prepare and maintain project budgets and forecasts, and work with project teams to monitor variances and develop corrective actions as needed.
  • Financial Reporting: Produce timely and accurate financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports, with a focus on construction-specific metrics.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with industry standards, legal regulations, and internal controls, particularly related to job costing, contracts, and audits.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, estimators, and other key stakeholders to provide financial insights that drive decision-making.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to increase the efficiency and accuracy of the financial management systems.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in construction accounting or financial management.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Procore, Viewpoint) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Certification: CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of construction project accounting, job costing, AIA billing, and contract management.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across departments.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a detail-oriented and proactive approach.
