Description

Outside In's Employment & Education Resource Center (ERC) is an integrated career development program that works to help youth ages 18-24 move out of poverty and homelessness. The ERC provides a variety of work readiness and job search activities, job retention coaching, post-secondary support, SNAP and nutrition support, and GED services. The Career Development Coach (Employment) works individually with youth, at the ERC and out in the community, to support job search, career exploration, soft skills development, employment retention, and enrollment and persistence in post-secondary vocational training.

This is a fully grant-funded position.
Essential Duties
  • Help participants create and maintain individualized career plans
  • Design and implement career exploration and job search activities
  • Lead biweekly drop-in job club
  • Co-teach monthly two-week job readiness course
  • Provide coaching and instruction to bolster soft skills
  • Work with clients to secure and retain living-wage employment
  • Partner with local employers to provide career exposure, internships, and job placements
  • Recognize and celebrate client success, persistence, and other achievements
  • Communicate and collaborate with staff in other programs to coordinate client support and address barriers
  • Work with ERC team to ensure an integrated approach and continuous program improvement
  • Support agency mission and goals, and the operational functioning of the Youth Department
  • Demonstrate commitment to excellent customer service, continual learning, and quality performance
  • Perform all required documentation in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries at all times
  • Perform other duties as requested
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, education, or related human-services field (preferred)
  • Two years of experience working in workforce development and/or with young people experiencing homelessness and navigating trauma
  • Willing and able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work collaboratively and equally well with diverse coworkers, businesses, post-secondary institutions, community partners, and youth with multiple barriers to employment
  • Flexible, pragmatic, and creative thinker with exceptionally strong communication, organization, planning, and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications
  • Valid driver's license (preferred)
  • Spanish fluency (preferred)
Working Conditions
  • Primarily in an office and school setting with moderate noise

Physical Requirements

This job requires operating phones, computers, and other office equipment. Communicating is required on a regular basis. Moving inside the building to other offices and program delivery spaces as well as moving to surrounding sites is expected. Sporadically moves boxes and/or items weighing up to 15 pounds.
