Job Description Unit Information: We are a dynamic Pediatric Critical Care transport team utilizing rotor wing, fixed wing and ground transports.  We transport advanced respiratory, neurological, metabolic, cardiac and trauma patients.  We are looking for experienced pediatric nurses with strong critical thinking skills who are looking for the challenge of critical care in a transport environment.  Scope Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the following age groups: neonatal, pediatric, and adult. All Life Flight medical crew members may be subject to certain work conditions while functioning in the full capacity of their position. These work conditions include, but are not limited to: performance of essential job responsibilities in a moving aircraft or ground ambulance as well as the potential to do so in an outdoor environment (inclement weather, extremes of temperature, steep terrain, back country, etc.), exposure to noise, vibration, and dehydrating environment of an aircraft or ground ambulance, unpressurized helicopter flight at altitudes which may range to 10,000 feet, unexpected depressurization of fixed wing at altitude, exposure to patients with known or unknown infectious disease in an enclosed space. Life Flight medical crewmembers are required to participate in on-going random drug testing program. Life Flight RNs must have an advanced certification (CCRN, CFRN, CNPT, CEN, or CTRN) or are expected to receive one within 2 years of hire. Job Essentials Assess: Performs appropriate assessment of physical, social and psychological status (including cognitive, communicative and developmental skills as appropriate). Seeks and evaluates information acquired from patient record and other members of interdisciplinary team: referring healthcare provider, patient, family, physician(s), non-nursing disciplines, support staff, others. Plan: Uses assessment information and independent critical thinking skills to autonomously and collaboratively develop individualized plan of care. Actively seeks patient, family, team, and physician involvement to develop plan of care including needed education. Coordinates and effectively communicates decision-making process and plan for patient care with team members and other health care providers, where possible and appropriate. Prepares patients for further support at receiving facilities. Implement: Directs medical care via delegation, coordination and collaboration as appropriate. Provides or delegates care consistent with plan of care, guidelines of care and professional licensure provisions. Demonstrates the ability to set priorities and to coordinate and organize patient care delivery through effectively managing time, supplies, and resources. Selects and administers the appropriate medications and calculates correct dosage based on physical findings. Evaluate: Evaluates patient response to interventions through review of achievement of goals, clinical outcomes, patient and family satisfaction. Revises plan of care as indicated, and reassesses changes as appropriate. Professionalism: Promotes nursing profession and education and actively participates in development of self and others. Integrates legal and ethical standards into practice: complies with regulatory standards (including CAMTS and CLIA). Practices within scope of licensure and Intermountain and Life Flight policies, procedures, and patient care guidelines. Provides accurate & timely documentation; and understands legal implications of care delivery. Evaluates transports according to Life Flight Quality Management criteria and guidelines. Minimum Qualifications RNs hired or promoted into this role need to have or obtain their BSN within three years of hire or promotion. Current RN License in state of practice. - and - BLS Certification for healthcare providers.. - and - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - and - Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - and - Certification(s) as appropriate to area(s) of practice (i.e. High Risk OB RN: Neonatal Resuscitation [NRP], etc.). Three years of Critical Care/Emergency Department or Labor and Delivery experience. - and - Current experience in area of practice required (team specific). - and - Must be able to be at the Life Flight fixed wing base location within 30 minutes of dispatch. - and - Rotor Wing RNs must weigh less than 216 pounds fully-dressed at the time of hire and must maintain that weight. - and - Rotor Wing RNs must weigh less than 216 pounds fully-dressed at the time of hire and must maintain that weight. A flight physical is required for this role Preferred Qualifications 3 years of PICU or pediatric ER experience Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution. Physical Requirements: Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. - and - Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations. - and - Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc. - and - Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items. - and - Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc). - and - May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
