JOB TITLE: Incoming Yard Inspector/Relief Heavy Equipment Operator.
REPORTS TO: Operations Manager.
JOB TYPE: Full-time, Non-Exempt.
LOCATION: 3175 Lake Shore Road Buffalo NY, 14219.
HOURS: Monday - Friday 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
COMPENSATION: $18-20/hr. based on experience and skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensures a safe work environment for self and others at all times.
  • Keeps management aware of any delays or discrepancies.
  • Keeps yard clean, well-organized and safe.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out simple one or two-step instructions.
  • Informing/communicating with the yard personnel.
  • Ensure that quality, environmental, and safety standards of Metalico Inc. for production, customers and employees are consistently achieved.
  • Inspect loads for non-conforming materials and communicate with operators and drivers to ensure safe unloading practices of materials.
  • Inspect scrap load to identify prohibited items, assign correct commodity codes, and assign deductions according to best practices.
  • Inspect customer materials for liquids, non-metallic materials, and other non-acceptable materials (i.e., Propane tanks, PCBs, and batteries, etc.).
  • Identify and record inspection data to include weight, grade, content, and quantity of scrap material.
  • Ensure customers drop the correct material in the correct designated areas.
  • Direct drivers to drop-off location(s).
  • Communicate via 2-way radio with Weigh Master and yard personnel.
  • Cross train in other tasks as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned or requested.
  • Must be able to perform a variety of tasks in all kinds of weather/seasons.
  • Required to wear proper PPE (steel toed boots, hard hats, safety glasses).

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Able to operate bobcats, forklifts, loaders a plus.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time.
  • Knowledge of the various ferrous and non-ferrous metals a plus.
  • Quick learner who can follow directions.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Team player.
  • Organized, consistent, and good at multitasking.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation to work.
  • Prior to hire - Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug test and criminal background check.
