The Registered Nurse Hampstead Hospital is responsible for delivering professional nursing care to pediatric, adolescent, developmentally disabled and adult patients experiencing psychiatric or substance abuse disorders. Nursing care for these patients would require psychosocial, physical, and behavioral assessments related to specific conditions, and behavioral therapies and interventions.

The Registered Nurse will carry out these responsibilities independently within the scope and standards of the ANA and New Hampshire Nurse Scope of Practice of the RN. This position also provides immediate supervision delegation of assignments to licensed and unlicensed personnel accordingly to patient acuity and available resources.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assess the total needs of patients, including physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual, social, and economic; establish nursing care problems and implement goals and interventions on the Master Treatment Plan.
  • Utilize psychiatric nursing interventions as described in ANA Standards of Psychiatric Nursing Practice.
  • Apply scientific principles in performing nursing procedures and techniques; apply knowledge of pharmacology and other therapeutic methodologies and diagnostic tests.
  • Evaluate patients’ symptoms, progress towards goals, and outcomes of care.
  • Document and report findings to the appropriate member of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide individualized patient/family education customized to the patient and his/her family.
  • Satisfactorily perform medical record documentation in accordance with all Joint Commission and CMS standards.
  • Promote the hospital culture of patient safety in a non-punitive atmosphere; report medical errors and significant events; participate in hospital safety training programs and Performance and Improvement activities.
  • Develop and maintain effective and appropriate communication skills with nursing colleagues, members of the multidisciplinary treatment team and other hospital departments.
  • Engage in activities and behaviors that characterize a professional nurse.
  • Identify his/her own learning needs and goals for professional growth and development; implement a plan to meet these goals.

Education:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Experience:
  • One (1) year recent psychiatric nursing experience is preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Licensed in state of employment.
  • CPR Certification (within 3 months of hire).
  • CPI Certification (within 3 months of hire).
