Youth Educator Job Description:The Prevention Education Program is responsible for providing a variety of preventive and educational presentations to San Mateo County schools, community organizations, and individuals affected by sexual abuse/assault.
The primary responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide presentations to various sectors of the community; prioritizing outreach to middle schools, high schools, local community colleges, social service agencies and government agencies involved with youth.
- Provide culturally relevant workshops to youth and other stakeholders.
- Deliver empowerment workshops for at-risk youth who have experienced trauma, with particular focus on those who have been identified as at-risk for Commercial Sexual Exploitation (CSEC).
- Provide training and technical assistance for teachers and school staff who encounter youth victims of violence; conduct outreach to the community to schedule trainings focused on prevention and intervention, including providing on-going counseling services and/or referrals to appropriate agencies.
- Work with partners to bolster and refresh staff and partner agencies’ competencies in working with youth (e.g., techniques to help with relating to and building trusting relationships with youth).
- Collect, maintain, and input accurate information into program database.
- Complete monthly reports including narrative description of the program activities, objectives and goals.
- Answer crisis line calls and meet with walk-in clients during business hours, as needed.
- Provide medical/legal accompaniment services to survivors of sexual assault, as needed.
- Attend bi-weekly team meetings.
- Maintain a positive, professional working relationship with volunteers, clients, the general public, agency staff and community partners at all times.
- Perform administrative and operational tasks such as copying, stocking informational packets, and sharing office coverage (e.g. answering phones).
- Adhere to all RTS personnel policies and protocols.
- Perform other agency responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent career experience required.
- 1-3 years of experience providing outreach and education.
- Passion for working with and empowering youth.
- Fluency in Spanish and English desired (not required).
- Strong, dynamic public speaking and training skills.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including ability to listen, clarify, validate, and respectfully challenge.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent writing skills.
- A creative thinker who is able to translate RTS’ mission, vision, and values to a wide array of audiences.
- Self-motivated and a team player. Ability to work in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
- Must bring an eager and open-minded attitude, including the ability to problem solve as needed.
- Must be comfortable working in a small team environment.
- Interest in and commitment to developing or expanding trauma-focused counseling and advocacy skills.
- Must have the ability to establish rapport with diverse groups and individuals.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including some weekend and evening hours to finish projects on time.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PPT), Google Suite and other commonly used applications.
- Valid California driver’s license, insurance, and reliable access to transportation.
- Familiarity with San Mateo County and community resources.
Salary/Benefits:$28.00 - $31.25 hourly rate + 5% pay differential for bilingual Spanish/English fluency, DOE.
