 Purpose:
As a Controls Engineer, you will apply standard engineering techniques to design, develop, and maintain instrumentation and control systems for optimization for production. Your role will involve troubleshooting and problem-solving equipment issues, installing new equipment, conducting routine maintenance and ensuring the efficiency and reliability of these systems, contributing to the smooth operation of various processes and technologies. 

Job Responsibilities:
  • Automate manufacturing or similar processes through the use of instrumentation or controls systems 
  • Develop new and modify existing PLC or HMI applications, interfaces or embedded controls 
  • Accurately complete all necessary document specifications and operating procedures
  • Trouble shooting, installation, maintenance and repair on designated equipment 
  • Assist at all times with keeping the production lines running as a first priority
  • Inspecting equipment and conducting routine and preventative  maintenance
  • Responsible for controls engineering & electrical support, controls modifications and continuous improvement of production processes
  • Provide technical support and direction to maintenance and other technical employees within the organization; maintain regular contact with partners outside of direct work group
  • Evaluate or monitor expenditures for processes and/or equipment 
  • Lead activities related to TIP (Throughput Improvement Process) 
  • Design Tests to efficiently find opportunities for design improvements
  • Stay on top of industry trends, technologies, and standard methodologies 
  • Identify and document system vulnerabilities and craft mitigation action plans; track corrective actions 
  • Recognize waste and recommends initiatives for elimination or reduction 
  • Maintaining daily communication with vendors to ensure resolution and proper follow up
  • Maintaining tools and test equipment and ensuring they are properly calibrated
  • Collaborating with management on equipment modifications and working with vendors to ensure proper operation
  • Removing old equipment and installing new machines 
  •  Providing technical support and training on new equipment
  •  Responding to internal customer call outs

Skills/Work Experience Needed: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred 
  • Proficiency with PLC programming - Rockwell Software and Allen Bradley drives
  • Experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks a plus
  • Must be knowledgeable of and be capable of working on various food manufacturing equipment
  • Proven work experience as a Controls Engineer 
  • Knowledge of EPA and OSHA guidelines 
  • Ability to fabricate, maintain and work with bakery equipment (ovens, mixers, conveyers, high speed, wrappers, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and heating systems 
  • Ability to read system schematics, blueprints and specifications
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills
  • Understanding of safety and equipment procedures 
  • Experience interfacing with both internal team members and external customers as part of a solution based service process
  • Proficient level of computer skills including MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical issues in an easy to understand manner.

Work Environment:  
  • Production area can vary in temperature either be cool or warm depending on the season and possibly humid in the summer months 
  • Concrete floors are slippery, especially when wet
  • Intact senses of sight, with corrective lenses are necessary
