Field Service Technician Level 2 - Managed Services Provider

Position Summary:
Computers N’ Stuff of Waco is a small, rapidly growing company. We're not just a network company; we're a one-stop shop for our customers' IT and security needs. We provide monitored alarm systems, surveillance systems, WiFi deployment, Anti-Virus/RMM solutions, and VoIP services to our customers. Currently, we support close to 1000 employees across approximately 80 monthly customers, with over 200 customers in our sphere. We strive to continually improve the standards and quality of service provided by our team, dedicating ourselves to protecting the integrity of the data and systems entrusted to our care by providing a secure network environment. We invest in training our employees, including incident response training for IT staff and certifications from each of our major vendors. Over the past five years, we have created a robust monitoring solution connecting all of our customers back to our cloud systems, allowing unparalleled response and network management.

Job Description:
The Field Service Technician (FST) Level 2 will handle routine and special project work orders within Texas and occasionally beyond. The FST Level 2 should have a moderate understanding of analog/digital/VoIP phone systems, computers, networks, servers, and in-depth experience troubleshooting these systems. A basic understanding of running cable is also required. The FST Level 2 will take direction from Level 3 and above and may work solo or as part of a team with other CNS technicians or technicians from other companies. Typical work hours are Monday – Friday, 8 am - 5 pm, with some projects requiring travel outside these hours.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Configure, test, and maintain local and wireless area network infrastructure implementations to ensure effective, secure, and efficient networking systems.
  • Install and maintain switches, routers, firewalls, and other network-connected devices.
  • Perform cabling and wiring (network and phone) for CNS customers as needed.
  • Install surveillance systems and monitored alarm systems.
  • Ensure all network-connected devices are functioning properly.
  • Assist in performance tuning and capacity planning activities to enhance network resource performance.
  • Maintain operating system and security software on the network, including user management.
  • Identify and respond to network intrusions, vulnerabilities, and attacks, executing solutions to improve security for Computers N’ Stuff of Waco and its customers.
  • Monitor, test, and troubleshoot network performance.
  • Maintain the integrity of the network, servers, and desktop computers, including applying security patches and updates.
  • Assist with network upgrades and consult with vendors and consultants as needed.
  • Respond to incident and support calls, process service requests, and tasks.
  • Update the internal knowledgebase with issue resolution details.
  • Provide on-call support outside normal office hours as required.
  • Perform related and assigned work, ensuring regular attendance and timeliness.
  • Travel locally, statewide, and interstate as required.

Education:
  • Required: Associate’s degree in Network Administration, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Systems.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Systems.

Skills & Experience:

Required:
  • 2 years’ experience in network administration.
  • Ability to construct, operate, and maintain LAN and WAN networks.
  • Knowledge of firewall servers and basic rule-setting programming.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with users, developing, and maintaining professional working relationships with customers, department heads, subordinates, and co-workers.
  • Proficiency in MS Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, TCP/IP, OSI Model, Cisco ASA and IOS, and ExtremeOS.
  • Knowledge of desktop operating systems, software, printers, and scanners.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, particularly in managing multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license and adherence to safety regulations.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • An active cell phone with a camera and data plan during active employment.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug test (or exemption from the owner).
  • Ability to pass a DOD background check.
  • Commitment to achieving excellence in assigned duties.
  • Ability to earn and maintain the trust of fellow employees and the community.
  • Dependability as a positive force for team morale and overall attendance.
  • Approachability and readiness to assist fellow employees and the public.

Preferred:
  • Experience with Mikrotik and RouterOS.

Environmental Factors:
  • Work indoors and outdoors, sometimes in extreme temperatures.

Physical Demands:
  • Frequent sitting, talking, hearing, using hands to finger, handle, feel objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Regular walking, ladder climbing, and crawling in narrow passageways and other confined spaces.

Hours/Special Conditions:
  • Flexible schedule based on facility needs.
