Incoming Inspector

JOB TITLE: Incoming Inspector
REPORTS TO: Operations Manager
JOB TYPE: Full-Time, non-exempt
LOCATION: 3175 Lake Shore Rd. Buffalo NY, 14219
HOURS: Monday - Friday 7:30 AM-4:00 PM
COMPENSATION: $18-20/hr, based on skills and experience.

PURPOSE:
The incoming inspector position supports plant operations by inspecting the incoming loads for non-conforming materials. They are also responsible for directing the flow of traffic to ensure safe unloading practices. Will perform other duties as directed by management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensures a safe work environment for self and others at all times
• Keeps management aware of any delays or discrepancies
• Keeps yard clean, well-organized, and safe
• Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out simple one or two-step instructions
• Incoming/communicating with the yard personnel
• Ensure that quality, environmental, and safety standards of Metalico Inc. for production, customers, and employees are consistently achieved
• Inspect loads for non-conforming materials and communicate with operators and drivers to ensure safe unloading practices of materials
• Inspect scrap load to identify prohibited items, assign correct commodity codes, and assign deductions according to best practices
• Inspect customer materials for liquids, non-metallic materials, and other non-acceptable materials (i.e. Propane tanks, PCBs, batteries, etc.)
• Identify and record inspection data to include weight, grade, content, and quantity of scrap material
• Ensure customers drop the correct material in the correct designated areas
• Direct drivers to drop-off location(s)
• Communicate via 2-way radio with the Weigh Master and yard personnel
• Cross-train in other tasks as needed 
• Must be able to perform a variety of tasks in all kinds of weather/seasons
• Required to wear PPE (safety-toed boots, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
• Able to operate bobcats, forklifts, and loaders a plus
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time
• Knowledge of the various ferrous and non-ferrous metals is a plus
• Quick learner who can follow directions
• Good communication skills
• Team player
• Organized, consistent, and good at multitasking
• Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation to work
• Prior to hire - must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and criminal background check.
