Summary: The Peer Support Specialist Program Supervisor/Qualified Professional is responsible for providing coaching, mentoring, and consultation to beneficiaries to promote recovery, self-advocacy, and self-direction. This role involves implementing wellness management strategies, assisting with behavioral and substance abuse treatment interventions, and promoting a culture of recovery and resilience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Promote Wellness: Deliver manualized interventions such as Wellness Recovery Action Planning or Illness Management and Recovery to promote wellness management strategies.
  • Develop Advance Directives: Assist beneficiaries in developing psychiatric advance directives.
  • Behavioral and Substance Abuse Treatment: Provide support for behavioral and substance abuse treatment interventions.
  • Model Recovery Values: Demonstrate recovery values, attitudes, beliefs, and personal action to encourage wellness and resilience.
  • Consultation: Provide consultation to team members to assist in understanding recovery and the role of Peer Support Specialists, ensuring beneficiaries’ points of view and preferences are respected and integrated into treatment.
  • Person-Centered Planning: Participate in the initial Person-Centered Plan and its ongoing revisions, ensuring its implementation if in Qualified Professional status.
  • Support and Empowerment: Support and empower individuals to exercise their legal rights within the community.
  • First Responder: Participate in a first responder on-call system available to consumers and/or their natural support network on a 24/7/365 basis; coordinate “first response” resources according to consumer needs and the PCP.
  • Company Representation: Represent the company positively, reflecting the company’s mission at all times.
  • Confidentiality: Ensure confidentiality regarding sensitive and protected information and uphold individual rights to privacy and protected health information.
  • Documentation: Maintain required records such as documentation of progress notes and ensure timely and accurate compliance with medical records according to the record service manual.
  • EMR Documentation: Accurately document all billable encounters into  EMR system within 24 hours, making any necessary corrections within 24 hours of notification.
  • Review and Approve Notes: Review, edit, and ensure compliance of Peer Support Specialist notes. Approve notes for payment and clinical compliance.
  • Scheduling Management: Manage the scheduling of Peer Support Specialists to ensure client needs are met and services are provided effectively.
  • Service Assurance: Ensure clients are receiving appropriate and timely services as outlined in their Person-Centered Plan.
  • Supervision and Training: Supervise Peer Support Specialists, providing training, coaching, and mentoring to ensure high-quality service delivery. Conduct regular meetings and monitor services provided.
  • Recruitment and HR Duties: Handle the full cycle of recruitment for Peer Support Specialists, including interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new staff. Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing support for professional development.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned and participate in all required training and education as mandated by the specific service line and clinical coverage policy.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Supervision of Peer Support Specialists: Oversee the work of Peer Support Specialists, ensuring adherence to best practices and organizational standards.
  • Training and Development: Design and administer training modules, provide coaching and mentoring, and facilitate regular team meetings.
  • Performance Management: Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and support professional growth and development.
  • Recruitment and Onboarding: Manage the recruitment process for Peer Support Specialists, including interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new team members.
  • Review and Compliance: Review, edit, and ensure compliance of Peer Support Specialist notes. Approve notes for payment and clinical compliance.
  • Scheduling Management: Manage the scheduling of Peer Support Specialists to ensure client needs are met and services are provided effectively.
Qualifications:
  • Education/Experience: Must possess a 4-year degree in Human Services field.
  • Skills/Abilities: Demonstrate knowledge of the population served.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Certified Peer Support Specialist (preferred). Must have North Carolina Peer Support Certification and maintain current certification. Valid driver's license.
Work Environment:
  • Work is performed primarily in the client’s living environment and in the community. 
  • This may involve exposure to cigarette smoke, domestic animals/pets, household pests, uncomfortable heating/cooling, and other issues related to the domestic location in which service is delivered.
Physical Demands:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk and hear; and taste and smell. 
  • The employee frequently reaches with hands and arms and stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. The employee occasionally sits and climbs or balances. 
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 
  • Must be able to drive and operate a personal vehicle safely and adhere to all applicable state and traffic laws.
