Job Title: Associate Director of EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety)

Overview: The Associate Director of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing programs and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. This role involves ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, occupational health standards, transportation and other safety laws. The Associate Director of EHS works closely with management, employees, and regulatory agencies to minimize risks and ensure the well-being of all staff and the community.

Key Responsibilities:EHS Program Development and Implementation:
  • Develop and implement comprehensive EHS policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards.
  • Create and manage safety training programs for employees.
Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal EHS and DOT regulations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of EHS and DOT laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation to regulatory agencies.
Incident Management:
  • Investigate and report on workplace accidents and incidents.
  • Develop corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Maintain records of incidents and monitor trends to identify areas for improvement.
Property Conservation:
  • Develop programs that preserve property under various perils such as fire, wind/hail, ice storms etc.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA standards for all facilities.
  • Work with facilities management to ensure all fire suppression systems are in proper working order.
Environmental Management:
  • Monitor and manage waste disposal, air emissions, storm water runoff and other environmental impacts.
  • Develop strategies for pollution prevention and resource conservation.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
Health and Safety Programs:
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and drills.
  • Provide guidance on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Implement health and wellness programs to promote employee well-being.
Emergency Response:
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans.
  • Coordinate and conduct emergency drills and training sessions.
  • Serve as the primary contact for emergency situations.
Continuous Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for EHS program improvements.
  • Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging trends.
  • Foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility throughout the organization.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in an EHS role, preferably in manufacturing. 5 years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • In-depth knowledge of EHS and DOT regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Certification in EHS management (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management software.
