Job Description

Finance & Strategy improves financial and operational decision-making across Block. As Head of Square FP&A, you will report into the Square CFO and lead planning and reporting for the Square Business, representing over $3B in annual topline contribution to Block, across more than 30 products across 8 countries. You will also play a lead role in our Block/Square Finance systems transformation.

You will:

  1. Oversee the consolidated P&L, and influence key decision makers in the Company to deliver on long-term growth and profitability of the Company
  2. Identify important risks and opportunities, and collaborate directly with the business to assess impacts, propose solutions, evaluate and investment cases
  3. Design and own the operating plan, which includes long range planning, annual planning, quarterly forecasting, and monthly management reporting of financial performance.
  4. Prepare presentations for Company executives and the Board of Directors on the business strategy, plans, and performance
  5. In collaboration with the people team, manage and drive our workforce strategy
  6. Drive our analytics and reporting infrastructure within Square, while also being the primary point of contact from the segment for our overall Block Finance data infrastructure initiatives
  7. Partner closely with functional leads within Square Finance & Strategy (F&S) including, Product and Go-to-Market (GTM) to build the appropriate growth investments into our products and ecosystem. This role will be a critical link toward clearer alignment between Square F&S and Corp F&S
  8. Partner closely with Corp F&S (FP&A) to drive investments across the P&L and enhance the efficacy of our reporting capabilities for internal and external stakeholders.
  9. Partner with and support the Square CFO on special projects impacting the Square BU & Block business.
  10. Be a senior leader within the Square F&S organization and drive development, scale and innovation across all Square F&S functions.
  11. Partner closely with finance stakeholders across Foundational on cross functional projects that drive impact for Square and Block.
  12. Lead, manage, and scale the Central F&S team, including a small team of data scientists. Provide the necessary coaching and organizational structure to ensure FP&A operates as best-in-class
Qualifications

You have:

  1. 10+ years of relevant experience in FP&A, corporate/strategic finance
  2. Demonstrated results working well across various teams with strong project management skills to coordinate between multiple groups in order to deliver projects on time
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, coupled with the ability to summarize detailed information in order to make actionable recommendations
  4. Experience influencing large and senior stakeholders
  5. Advanced proficiency in data insights, analytics, and storytelling
  6. Process design and transformation experience
  7. Experience managing a high-performing team through hiring and coaching
  8. Commitment to Square’s purpose of Economic Empowerment
  9. Experience in financial services
  10. Experience with analytics and comfort working with large datasets
  11. Experience leading finance transformation efforts and/or implementing ML applications for financial functions
  12. Experience with software, internet, or financial technology industry
Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
