Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Perioperative Services, responsible for the activities of personnel in the preparation and dispensing of sterile materials, instruments, supplies, and equipment used in delivering patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

·         Education

o   High school diploma or equivalent required.

o   Completion of a course in sterile processing required.

o   Bachelor's degree preferred. Equivalent experience in Sterile Processing or Operating Room will be considered in lieu of education.

·         Experience

o   Significant experience (usually 1-3 years) in Sterile Processing and/or Operating Room required.

o   Previous supervisory experience required.

·         Licensure and/or Certification

o   Sterile Processing Technician from IAHCSMM or CBSPD required. Incumbents hired into the position before 4/1/10 will have until 9/1/10 to meet this requirement.

o   Sterile Processing healthcare leader certification strongly preferred from International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM)

OR

o   Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).

·         Skills

o   Excellent customer service skills.

o   Knowledge of sterile processing and regulatory requirements.

o   Outstanding communication skills.

o   Data processing experience required.

o   Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to motivate and direct staff.

o   Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.

o   Ability to maintain confidential information.

o   Computer skills required.
